Pontiac GTO: A much better experience for the right foot than the left

by mkaresh mkaresh is a Lead on Epinions in Cars & Motorsports, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 10, Apr 15 '04
Pros: Big torque = right foot fun, seats, cheap for a V8 RWD coupe, color-keyed interiors
Cons: Exhaust noise, no dead pedal, ergonomics, ingress/egress, sunroof not available, spoiler not deletable
The auto press has been terribly hypocritical about the Pontiac GTO. For years it begged GM to import its Australian subsidiary’s V8-powered, rear-wheel-drive cars. The conversion of the North American product line to front-wheel-drive and ...

The poor mans Corvette (December 2008 Update)

by napoleon123 , Oct 02 '05
Pros: Balanced high performance, athletic styling, exhaust note, relaibility, comfortable ride, interior fit and finish.
Cons: Thirsty with the automatic, doesn't like snow, could stand to lose about 200 pounds.
*UPDATE* First and foremost, if you want a super-long, super-detailed review of the 2004 Pontiac GTO, you might want to look else ware. I am a recent 27 year old buyer of a “almost new” (4K miles on the odometer) 04 GTO and this may ...

An Enjoyable and Competent but Flawed Luxury Sport Coupe

by illuminata , Oct 02 '04
Pros: Great horsepower, comfort, and value. Good handling and road manners. Good refinement for GM.
Cons: Interior missing many features expected on a $30k+ car, poor gas mileage, tiny trunk.
The Pontiac GTO was not my first choice car. I considered the Mercedes CLK, Audi A4 cabrio, Infiniti G35 and other higher end German and Japanese cars. What drew me to the GTO was the 0% GMAC financing and competitive $33,000 sticker price price ...

Who said it had to look like the old one?

by bigman04gto , Jan 11 '05
Pros: Awesome Power, Beefy Tranny, Spectacular Seats, Sleek,Plentiful Room(Im 6'9"), Kicking stereo, Great Quality/Productionnumbers/MPG/Brakes/Steering
Cons: Hard/Long shifts, Dealers scalped badly, Enviro Friendly Paint=Chipping Paint, Little Heavy
The sleek body of the new GTO is impressive. Although smashed on by many a magazine and car show, I beleive its a breath of fresh air for Pontiac that they borrowed from the Aussie comrade Holden sold there as the Monaro. Of which they should have hopped ...

Buy one in 2004? ... not this year

by mldavis2 , May 25 '04
Pros: Best powertrain in the industry. Excellent performance/economy combination. Attractive LIST price.
Cons: Entry and exit a bit tight. Fair/poor trunk space.
I looked at this car with an eye to buying it this year. Typically, I do a lot of research before deciding on a vehicle and then expect to live with it for a good long time. So longevity is a consideration, along with performance, handling and lastly, ...

'04 GTO = POS

by skigt , Feb 18 '05
Pros: Acceleration, other motorist constant staring, non-flickering instrument backlight.
Cons: Electrical system, paint, transmission, interior finish, exhaust rattle, flickering instrument backlight.
Let me start with the good things to say since it won't take long. The power and attention it brings is a single child's dream. It is one of those cars that you always feel like to have to put your foot in it from every dead stop, 1st-2nd-3rd-4th ...

In a class of its own between a Mustang and a BMW M3

by cdgoin , Nov 01 '04
Pros: American V8 Muscle meets BMW handling. Awesome seats, superb interior fit and finish.
Cons: No central door lock switch, A/C controls could have more input.
It is said that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I find the clean lines perfect, but the treatment of the nose could use a bit of tweaking (Although I think the nostrils on the 2005 are not the answer). That is the most I can find wrong with the ...

This car got me back in a NEW car after 19 yrs
by carbuff442 ,Jul 21 '06
Pros: LS1 Power, Seats, Handling, stealth performer, quality workmanship, fun to drive, decent fuel mileage
Cons: small trunk, notchy feel shifter (6-speed), environmentally friendly paint (chips easy)
Fun, Reliable, Subtle and Fast!
I was in the market for a new car and looked at Mustang GT, Crossfire, Thunderbird and 300.
Had the Ford Dealers not thought so highly of their 2005 Mustangs to charge $5,000 over sticker and call it market adjustment pricing, I probably would have bought one. In reality they did me a favor and made me look in Chrysler and GM showrooms.
My GTO has been a fantastic car and my only worry is what will be around to replace it with when the time comes.
2 trips in 30k miles to the dealer for 'warranty' type fixes. A very trouble free car.
