Pros: Manageable size, roomy interior, excellent driving position, almost car-like ride and handling, interior styling Cons: Exterior styling, throttle calibration, less cargo room than Pilot, third row suited only for children
Two years ago I drove the Toyota Highlander and concluded that, owing largely to its lack of a third-row seat, Toyota needed to go back to the drawing boards. Well, Toyota did. For 2004 a third-row seat is available in the Highlander. Other changes ...
Pros: I feel safe, It has power, I look cool Cons: The window roar, More tilt steering needed, Manufacture maintenance is expensive
Before having our son, me and my husband researched and looked at tons of SUVs to purchase for when our family grew into three. I have always been a Toyota girl. I have only owned one other Toyota, but it was a wonderful, cute car that never caused me a ...
Pros: Spacious interior, Simple interior layout, Quiet ride Cons: Bland exterior styling, Additions quickly become expensive, Third Row
Let me tell you who I am: A 17 year girl kid who worries about sleazy car dealers jippin my dad. However, don't let my age or laid back talk make you press the "back" button on your browser. I assure you my review will not be that bad. My review of ...
Pros: Reliable, sensible, not too big, not too small, Toyota quality Cons: A bit pricey, far from sporty
In general, a good all around vehicle, that nicely fits the niche between toy “cute-utes” and massive sport utility vehicles, all wrapped up with typical Toyota quality. Background: I purchased my 2004 Toyota Highlander V6 AWD w/ 3rd row new ...
Pros: Roomy seats, smooth quiet ride, solid feel to car. Cons: Helicopter sound when rear windows open. Thigh support inadequate in seat.
My Highlander is a great car for hauling my astronomy equipment. It has plenty of room for the equipment when the seats are folded flat. I am not tall(5'8", 1.7m), so I don't know how it would be for a tall person, but I find head room to be ...
Bought a silver 2004 Highlander at Toyota of Sunnyvale a few weeks ago using the fax attack recommended by fightingchance.com . Got it for $23K with a number of options (though I would recommend not trading in your old car; sell it privately). Opted to ...
an SUV for some who would prefer a car. by joy_road ,Sep 10 '06
Pros: tight turning radius, very smooth car-like ride. Kid friendly, good pick-up. 4 wheel drive. Cons: Not enough Driver's side leg room. CD's won't eject when car is off.
My wife & I bought the Highlander after test driving about a dozen SUV's. This one drives like a car, feels like a car, turns tighter than my Sebring, and gets respectable gas mileage. I wish it had a bit more drivers leg room (I'm over 6 ft.) but the headroom makes up for it. It's a great all-around-town vehicle, and the tight turning makes it very easy to park.
The beginning of the decline of Toyota by junkjohn ,Oct 03 '04
Pros: The Toyota symbol looks like a globe Cons: The cup holder in the front are poorly designed and don't really work.
We were loyal to Toyota since 1989; the purchase of a Highlander has led us to BMW. We had two problems: when you opened a window or the sunroof the air pressure change was drastic; and the bass in the "premium" stereo varied from engine off and engine on. The feeling in our ears and sound from the air pressure changes was analogous to what it must feel like in a helicopter. The stereo was still very unpleasant when the bass was set at minus 5. Toyota did nothing to accomodate us. In Toyota's view, even though service tech acknowledged two problems, performance was "within specification". We never thought we would get response like this from Toyota. We no longer believe in Toyota product. We are now trying a BMW X3 and even though we have only owned it for one week are impressed with its build quality; something missing in Toyota.
Toyota's Hesitating V6 Highlander by kads ,Jul 14 '04
Pros: After 4000 miles: Very good ride, construction quality and highway mpg Cons: risk of being involved in an accident when the engine hesitates. nonresponsiveness of toyota
Try this during a test drive and see if you still want a V6 Toyota Highlander.
Brake from 40 down to 20 mph, then immediately press the gas and experience a 2 second hesitation before it downshifts and you accelerate. A typical set of actions used everyday when making a left turn across oncoming traffic, or changing lanes in slow traffic.
The dealer, Toyota of Lewisville, Tx, verified the problem, said they drove a new one and it does it too, and concluded that's the "normal" design and operation. Dealer also confirmed with Toyota.
Looks like a design problem Check edmunds town hall and look at posts # 926 on highlanders and posts #580, 584, and 311 on Lexus RX 330, or #2092 on Camry (all are same drive train/controls). Many additional reports, search for "hesitation".
Complained to Toyota on the website 5 days ago, no response, looks like we're stuck with it. Needless to say, unless they fix it, our first Toyota will be our last Toyota, and that will be one too many!
Pros: Gas mileage, handling. cargo space, 4 wheel disc brakes Cons: Back seats are not comfortable
I bought a 4WD 2004 Highlander with the 230-hp 3.3 liter engine and 5-speed automatic transmission. The third row of seats fold flat and are great for small kids/short distances. They fold flat for lots of cargo space. The Highlander handles well, gets really good gas mileage for a 4WD SUV, and is, overall, pretty comfortable to drive.
Pros: Smooth drive, not so bad on gas Cons: One window partially open causes a thumping sound.
This is my first SUV and I love it. I never actually thought it was possible to get excited about driving. It drives so much more like a car than an truck, which makes it even better.
