I ended up with a one year membership to Ancestry.com when I purchased Family Tree Maker software about 14 months ago. I started browsing through the site and was almost immediately hooked. Within minutes I had discovered relatives I did ...
Family history. Family roots. Ties to the past. What better way is there to feel a part of history, then to see ones place in it? Genealogy is the study of ancestry and family research. Ancestry.com is the premier pay ...
Ancestry.com: A Great Place To Find The Family A few years back, I journeyed to the cemetery in Fairview, Tennessee where three generations of Pruitts are buried and a whole host of other relatives. Notations were made and then I queried my mother ...

I have to agree with the reviewer (402044784260) who criticized Ancestry.com for charging fees for incomplete databases. Only now, over a year after I subscribed to the UK databases (so two subscription fees), am I discovering that while the images ...
I found very little or no information about my ancestors on this site. by lrulison ,Feb 12 '07
I was very disappointed with this service. I tried for a month but I did not get any information on my family. Most of the time when I did a search I got this response: Your Search returned No Matches. I thought I would get access to public records such as birth certificates, death announcements, property deeds but this was not the case. My ancestors were from a small town in northern NY so it is possible these records are not online at this time. I am also confused as to genealogy. com, ancestry.com and My Family.com. All are owned by the same company but you must pay for separate subscriptions. Seems like if you are paying over $100 for a year subscription you should have access to all these sites.
Got a "free" subscription to their Ancestry magazine as part of a bundle for upgrading my genealogy software. It turns out that their free subscription is not so free -- they AUTOMATICALLY start billing your credit card after the first year! There is no way to cancel the charges on the web or via email, either. I have to try to catch them during their business hours and speak to someone to request it.
I find this very sleazy. They are intentionally making this inconvenient in the hope of getting revenue from people who don't want to jump through their hoops to unsubscribe.
Try it for free, No hassle cancellation, but you will not want to by eharris266 ,Nov 04 '05
First of all I would like to say I found out many fascinating things about my husband's ancestors. He also found out he was not his father's first born son. Hmmmmmm! Unfortunately, they did not have very much data from the state my ancestors are from at this time so I cancelled the membership. I will renew it when they have more info from my state. Next, I would like to comment on the excellent customer service this company offers. I did the 2 week free trial. I was paranoid if I canceled the membership that it would be very difficult and they would pressure me to keep it. As I said I did cancel it and they did not hassle me at all. I highly recommend this service.
ny experience was frustrating, useless, a waste of my time by monica1959 ,Aug 05 '09
This is one of the most misleading web sites out there. They claim in their ads you will find lost ancestors and hold documents in your hands, what garbage. They charge for images and services that are free on other sites and their search engines are so screwed up they can't find specific people because they transcribe names incorrectly so when you search the search is useless. They charge ridiculous amounts of money and take you to websites that literally have messages that say "If you got to this site through a paid service you are a sucker" They are right, Ancestry is for weekend genealogists and people too stupid to know better. I learned my lesson and will never pay them one thin dime for their bogus service, family trees based on peoples assumptions or messages that ask for more money becasue I haven't paid for this part of the membership.
