My Tireless Wireless Network Adapter: WiFi Certified And Almost Idiot Proof

by Freak369 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 10, Jul 30 '06
Pros: Easy to install, inexpensive, 24 hour toll free tech support, icon display.
Cons: My computer didn't like it at first.
Over the past two years I have had five internet providers at my home. Verizon DSL was the worst and I hate to say that for obvious reasons .. and oh yes, there will be a scathing review of that in the near future. So why did I finally decide to go ...

Making ME Wireless: Belkin's USB Wireless G Adapter

by scmrak Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 50, Jan 15 '07
Pros: inexpensive, stable, and reliable; runs under older versions of Windows
Cons: hinky install (though that may just be ME)
Warm air rises, which means that there are times when our attic (the residence of our backup desktop computer) is one of the warmest places in the house. That's probably why the Ms decided last fall that she'd take a dog or two upstairs and do her ...

Avoid this piece of junk!

by Raf_K Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Mar 30 '07
Pros: Cheapest USB wireless adapter.
Cons: Great if you want intermittent connection: you get what you pay for!
Having moved home a few months ago, I am now sharing my flat with two others. This means a wireless connection has become vital so that we can share it effectively. As I own a 3-year old desktop computer, I needed to look for a wireless adapter in order ...

Wireless One Two Three, Second Verse, Same as the First!

by shopaholic_man Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 100, Feb 10 '07
Pros: It was a snap to install.
Cons: Setting up security protocols was a pain.
This review goes hand in hand with my review of the Belkin Wireless Broadband router, because both of these products are needed to set up a wireless network! Step one is the installation and set up of the wireless router. Step two would be to plug one ...

Plug and Play Wireless

by Chi106 , Jan 27 '07
Pros: Easy to install. USB cable to provide distance from the CPU.
Cons: None for me
I installed a wireless 802.11b D-Link router about two years ago. It has worked like a charm broadcasting wireless Internet from the first floor to the second floor directly above. I recently decided to add another computer to the room adjacent to my ...

The Network Adapter is great ... kind of.

by warpymoople , Jul 01 '05
Pros: Cheap with rebate. Works great if computer is up 24x7.
Cons: Looses it's mind if you have to cycle power on you computer.
I installed the Belkin Wireless G USB Network Adapter on a VPR Matrix a FT-7100PE, running Windows XP (Home Edition). I interfaced with an ActionTec DSL wireless modem from Qwest, which is a little different than interfacing or communicating with ...

Cheap in price and quality... avoid at all costs

by alansaysyo , Jun 18 '06
Pros: Great if you only enjoy accessing the internet for ten minutes at a time.
Cons: Disconnects frequently, loses settings after reboot, completely unstable.
I returned this adapter four days after I bought it. Initially it worked well (as it should have, since the access point was only on the other side of the wall). But the adapter would disconnect from the network at random, sometimes after a few hours, ...

Gets you up and going on the cheap, but that's it.

by jdmccright , Jul 30 '05
Pros: Small & light; comes with stand & extension cable; simple operation; inexpensive.
Cons: Somewhat short range; Windows software worked better than Belkin's for device management.
[Revised 01-Aug-05] I got the F5D7050 simply because it was so cheap after rebates ($25-$20=$5). Plus, I've had good luck with Belkin products in the past, so I felt it was a good thing to take a chance on. The unit is light and small, but a ...

Might be cheap but that's it

by erik84 , Dec 31 '06
Pros: "Cheap", installation, looks
Cons: unstable, unreliable
I first have to say I got it for cheap with my Belkin wireless router, for about five €. Because it's a Belkin device like my router (which works just fine) I expected it to connect easily to it. Besides that it's a small, nice looking device. ...

I think I made a mistake
by retired_trvlr ,Feb 06 '07
Pros: Easy to install over and over.
Cons: Not reliable, never know if it will connect or not.
I'm a retired guy from the computer industry and live in a community where we can share DSL. I purchased 15 of these units from Best Buy going on name recognition. I now feel I have a full time job again trying to keep these units connected. I have uninstalled and reinstalled every one that I have installed. Out of the 15 I purchased, one had a different driver than the other 14 and was not interchangable. I have replaced 2 of the devices with D-Link and have had much better success with strength of signal and am not losing the connection. One big problem is I can get it connected to the router, turn the computer off and the next time the computer is powered up, it won't connect with either using the Belkin driver or the Windows driver. I have tried about everything I can think of including Windows repair etc. I think my only hope is that Belkin will come out with an improved driver.

Can't recommend...
by dibbs22 ,Dec 20 '05
Pros: Cheap price, decent physical design
Cons: Crappy software
Okay, at $39.95 it was the cheapest option for my desktop while shopping at Best Buy. Unfortunately, you get what you pay for. I have had nothing but problems with this product. First of all, almost every time I power down my computer and then turn it back on, I lose my connection with my router. I then have to manually re-enter my WEP code to get the connection back. However, several times the program would not accept my password. The only solution that I have found to fix this is to uninstall the Belkin software and reinstall/set-up again. Also, since I installed this software, my system has been locking up for no particular reason. Coincidentally, if I uninstall the software, my CPU seems to work flawlessly again. I have had this thing for 3 weeks and I am taking it back for a refund!

My system: XP Pro, 3GHZ Athlon, 1GB RAM, Cable internet connection

How many ways can one say "Piece of Garbage"?
by pammyjean ,Jul 31 '06
Pros: Unplugs easily so you can replace it with a better alternative.
Cons: Should have never installed it in the first place.
Bought this because of the price. You get what you pay for. I drop signal 3 - 5 times a minute. Forget gaming or anything else. Followed all the FAQ's etc. at the Belkin support site to fix the problems but nothing works. The fact that dropped signals is one of the first thing Belkin addresses should tell you there is a problem. I can put my Compaq Laptop or my son's Dell notebook and never lose a signal. I can take the Linksys Network Adapter off another desktop and put it on mine and never lose a signal. I would not advise anyone to purchase this piece of garbage.

Looked good at first
by bernalillo ,Oct 23 '07
Pros: Nice stand with long usb cable.
Cons: Bad utility and have to reinstall when changing usb port.
While the initial install looks good ongoing problems make this a dog. (I love the usb cable with the little stand though)

Crapware utility fights xp. I always wind up uninstalling the belkin utility before I can get it working reliably. I have to reinstall the drivers when ever I change which usb port I use.
