Don't do it! I know what you're thinking- how can this small squirt from one press of the pump clean a full load of dishes. Don't do it, I say. Don't press the pump again! Trust me it works. My first run-in with this product was at my parents ...
I have a hunting cabin with no running water. Doing the dishes means heating the water on the stove, dragging the pot over to the sink, pouring in some of the hot water and adding cold water, washing, rinsing with cold to remove most of the soap and then rinsing with the rest of the hot water to disinfect. I then need to go out to the pump to refill the pot to repeat the process the next time I do dishes.
I started using the foaming Dawn as soon as I saw it advertised. MAJOR difference. Get the dishes wet, one pump to wash the dishes and then rinse (I HAVE gotten really lazy. I usually just rinse with cold water.) Job done!
Manufacturer should look at special packaging in smaller containers to sell to backpackers etc.
Great Product for Hard Water by gaia33 ,Sep 07 '06
Pros: Love the large pump, and the light foam. Goes a long way! Cons: None--well, if it were free..... lol
I have hard water. When I wash dishes, not only do I have to use very hot water to help cut the grease, but I also have to use a LOT of dishwashing liquid. Not only that, but the limestone has an oily feel to it, so when the dishes sit in the water, they are almost impossible to get all the oily feel from them. With Dawn Direct, it gives me a light foam that easily removes the oil, I use the water to quickly rinse off the foam and voila! the cleanest dishes I've had in decades....
Pros: FANTASTIC FAST-WORKING PRODUCT THAT PROMOTES A HEALTHIER ENVIRONMENT IN THE KITCHEN. Cons: MAKE A BIGGER BOTTLE
Wow! I can't believe that something so small and humble looking could make dish washing such a pleasure! The ad with the vacuum of suds prompted me to try this product and I was prepared to give them a blast if it did not work. Well, I have to say that if you are used to washing dishes by hand you won't believe this product until you try it. It cuts dish washing time by over half! I am not kidding. Grease just flies off the dishes, glasses and pots but most of all its specialty is plastic. Washing plastic with any oil sitting on it can take wash after wash and this product makes it squeak (really) after just one pass of the sponge. I toss my sponges in the washing machine regularly as I am a nurse and am aware of germs in a kitchen but no more sink full of hot greasy water for me! This is by far the more sanitary, healthy and super-fast way to clean up after a meal!
This product is harming my nonstick frying pans! by marnieh1 ,May 09 '07
Pros: Originally, we liked the results of using the product. Cons: I am returning to regular Dawn to see if my (expensive!) nonstick pans recover.
I've been using this since it came out, and now find my nonstick pans are sticking! We often have eggs, either fried or as omelets. Soon, we found we had to scrape eggs from the pans; now, it is necessary to actually soak the pans to remove the residue.
Pros: Ease of use, convient pump, great at cutting greese Cons: pump leaks a bit but paper towel under it helps
I have been on treatment for Hep C for the past 6 months so the past few months my house cleaning as been a bare miniume. after my last bout of bed rest I went to the store and bought the Dawn Direct Foam. it took me 5 days to clean what should have taken 3 hours normally. this should give an idea of how sick and weak i've been. but after getting the Direct Foam I have not had a dirty dish in my kitchen for a full week it's awsome it does all it is said to do and my husband has even taken to washing his own dishes after 13 years of marriage this is a first. and my youngest actually asks to do dishes.. Thank you Proctor and Gamble for making this product you do not know how awsome it is to be able to keep my kitchen clean when being so ill..
I will and do recomend Dawn Direct to anyone I get a chance to talk to. for the first time in my life I've not wished for an automatic dish washer..
thank you again

Pros: Uses less soap and water, gets baked in stuff out fast. Cons: More suds than you know what to do with if you use too much.
Not only does it do an incredible job on the grease and grime of dirty dishes, but it works incredibly well at getting baby stains out of clothes--poop, urp, it all comes right out. A little of this stuff goes a long way.
One downside is that because people aren't used to such a concentrated product, they'll pump out too much, wasting the soap and creating more suds than they'll know what to do with.
Is it my imagination or is it just regular Dawn but more watery? by krisrose ,Jul 10 '06
Pros: Attractive dispenser Cons: $$$$$$$
I thought this was a great concept so I bought it as soon as it hit the market. I think it works fine, although one pump sure doesn't do a whole sink load of dishes. It was very expensive so I decided to just mix regular Dawn with water and put that in the pump. Works just the same!
This is just a diluted version of the regular product by transparent123 ,Sep 03 '06
Pros: Lots more cost for a lot less detergent. Cons: Sell you highly diluted product at the same price.
I also wondered why it was so thin and watery in the bottle. We the bottle ran out, I added just a little regular old dish soap to the bottle, not quite up to the bottom of the label, and filled the rest with water. This made a solution just about as thin as the direct foam product. It works just the same and makes foam just the same.
Pros: You use less water, it takes very little to cut the grease. Cons: You can't put it in those cute little dispensers.
I have used it for about a month, I really like it. It lives up to it's hype completely. Most new products do not.
We use a dishwasher but there are many times you clean up while cooking and there are things you do not want to put in the dishwasher, For these we use Dawn Direct Foam. I recommend it highly.
Good concept but still bugs to work out by dolphinzdreamz ,Sep 29 '06
Pros: Does what it claims Cons: Doesn't rinse well enough
I saw this product advertised on TV one night. I decided to go and get some since i was ready for a new bottle anyways. I brought it home and started doing dishes...Now since I have a family of 8 people, we have A LOT of dishes. Sometimes 3 sink fulls at a time. What i do like about this product that it cuts down on time spent doing dishes since i can wash and rinse dishes in the same sink at the same time without emptying both sides of the sink. Washing - it does fine. Does what it claims to do. The rinsing - leaves something to be desired. I followed the directions per the TV ad. Afterwards, the dishes and my hands felt like they still had a soapy film on them that took extra water to rinse off. Bottom line...It does not save any water if it cuts down on wash water but has double the rinse water. I'm going back to my regular dish liquid.
