The Salton Sea (2002)

by lemon_lime Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Sep 13 '02
Pros: Looks good, Kilmer, supporting cast
Cons: too much going on at times. not always easy to follow, to say the least.

I have to be honest, I'm not completely sure what I think of The Salton Sea. I know there were parts I liked, I know there were parts I disliked - and felt distracted from the overall film - and I also admit to not always understanding what...

The Illustrated Widower

by houstoncritic , Sep 14 '02
Pros: Good work in an otherwise gloomy subject.
Cons: Needed stronger ensemble roles written.
There are some things in this world worth waiting for. Ageing ungraciously as one stands in line at an Angelika Film Center to purchase an overpriced bottled water as fat and sodium addicts continually cut in front of you is certainly not one of them....

Who doesn't like dolphins?

by ninelives353 , May 11 '05
Pros: Kilmer and D'Onofrio lead outstanding performances, characters, script/humour, direction.
Cons: Some unlikely moments but nothing too ridiculous.
I've never heard of director, D.J. Caruso. I'm often weary of people who use initials as their name. You don't catch me calling myself G.D.. Actually, it sounds pretty cool. From now on, or certainly for the duration of this review, you can call me G.D. ...

Nothing is As it Seems

by nolan_j_sephoy , Dec 21 '02
Pros: Val Kilmer. Very Stylish. Keeps you guessing.
Cons: The first time is the best time. Repeated viewings do not hold up.
Val Kilmer is one of America’s finest actors. Yet not a lot of people know this because he seems to be so damn self-destructive. After making himself a mega-superstar with his outstanding portrayal of Jim Morrison in The Doors, he decided to pick and...

The Salton Sea - Serious Review

by joncocco , May 23 '02
Pros: A dark drama (dark humor) with good acting and interesting characters.
Cons: It starts off slow and takes time to pick up.
Salton Sea is not all-out great, but it is entertaining. It has several great moments if you like dark humor and interesting characters, but this film is not for everyone. Anyway, let me break it down. Acting - Val Kilmer does a very ...

Not just another drug movie

by trounce , Sep 23 '02
Pros: Intelligent, subtle directing. Val Kilmer is amazing! Cinematography is outstanding
Cons: Cliched plot, boring narrative. Sometimes TOO many subtleties
I am a drug fanatic - I love the idea of drugs and what they do to the body. I love how to body changes itself to adapt to frequent usage. I love how the media glorifies drugs and how directors interpret differently the effects. This by no means suggests...

A Good Thriller in the Style of Memento.

by gamer_12 , May 26 '02
Pros: Good acting, interesting story and flashy directing style.
Cons: Cheesy dialog at times.
What would you do if you woke up one day and didn’t remember what your name was and the details of your personal life? You would have almost no choice but to attempt to find out you identity. That’s the situation Val Kilmer’s character is facing in the...

The Salton Sea...Kilmer starts over again

by razorc , Sep 17 '02
Pros: Excellent visual style, effectively spiral storytelling, memorable performances
Cons: Relationship between Kilmer and his unlucky neighboor is underdeveloped.
Val Kilmer is an actor i really like...but i haven't liked him lately. Honestly...Tombstone was the last performance of his I remember noting. But he is back in top form with the Salton Sea..and he ain't alone. He is backed up by very good...

Decent Rental

by timmym , Dec 10 '02
Pros: Good acting, tatoos, and hair.
Cons: A little slow.
Watched this movie the other night. I usually like Val Kilmer so I thought that I would check this out. The very first thing that I noticed was the great artwork(fake tattoos)that Val had on his back. I liked the whole look that he had going on in...
