Pros: Very clean and well maintained bathrooms and shower facilities with hot water Cons: Strict state park staff re: noise, food storage
My husband and I went camping at Woodland Valley State Campground this past weekend with 4 other couples and a baby. MAKING RESERVATIONS AND REGISTRATION UPON ARRIVAL Each site that you reserve needs to be reserved under different names. We had 4 ...
Pros: Cute Woodstock-like town nearby, good base for tubing on Esopus Creek Cons: Too many to list, like bears, pay showers, bug infestations, lousy facilities
Every camper has one - the story of the camping trip that was so bad, it can't possibly get worse. This is ours, based in the Catskills of New York. We picked Woodland Valley State Campground based on web site descriptions, despite having never been ...
Pros: Beautiful setting, great hiking, near a great town, hot showers. Cons: Bad trash policy: Stingy recycling hours attract BEARS due to standing trash.
I have stayed at Woodland Valley three times in the past two years, and I do recommend it for hiking the highest peaks of the Catskills--even though I have strong complaints about its management. As other reviewers have pointed out, Woodland Valley is ...
Pros: Nice atmosphere and clean bathrooms Cons: garbage issues and small sites
We chose this campground because it was located not too far from the city (NYC) and perfect for a weekend getaway. The campsites are a little small in my opinion, yet they are clean and very shaded. We stayed at site number 36, which when you look at ...

Ideal Base Camp for beginners exploring the Catskills - Woodland Valley State Campground. by jacksopinion ,Jan 21 '06
Pros: Beautiful campground off beaten path. limited number of people per site overcrowding not a problem. Cons: My only beef was the two night minimum reservation that was required. But Hey
We went in August 05 to hike the Slide Mountain Wilderness Area. Easy reservation via telephone recommended. Very secure with a great staff. Slide mountain trail literally runs right through the campground and provides easy access to other day hikes in the area. I believe it would be ideal for bagging 35ers especially since there are three mountains over 3500 feet on the slide trail alone.
Accommodations were clean and nearby. Expect bears. Bugs were no problem as it was relatively dry at the time we went.
Woodland Valley State Campground by remekzuber ,Aug 13 '07
Pros: Nice place, beautiful hiking trails nearby. Cons: Very unpleasant staff. Very arrogant and rude ranger.
This is a rally nice campground nearby the highest peak of Catskill - Slide mountain. There is beautiful Esopus river as well - you can arrange nice tubing ride there but unfortunately the campground personnel is very rude. So if you are going to go to sleep before 10:00 PM is fine otherwise do not even think about this campground.
The ranger comes at 9:55 pm and forces you to clean the table and go to sleep. He is very rude and if you do not want to do what he says he calls police. He also flashes his flashlight straight at your face. Please find an alternative campground.
