93 vs. 87:10 Cent Insurance

Apr 28 '00

10 cent insurance for your automobile?Okay,it's not really insurance,
but if you have a older vehicle I'll explain why you should buy premium
gasoline over the cheap regular gasoline.
If you own a newer vehicle(mid-80's or up)the differences between the two should not really be noticeable, but if you're like me and you like the old cars(ones with real horsepower) or you can't afford a newer one
take notice.Older vehicles on the norm have a higher compression ratio
than modern vehicles, thus they need more octane than a modern low compression vehicle. If you feed your old car with regular(87 or 89 octane)fuel, you are asking for trouble.Problem # 1:Emmisions.Where I live the Secretary of State and the EPA force annual checks on all vehicle
owners. If you have an older vehicle and are not running premium fuel, you
may fail the inspection, which can give you a lot of grief.Problem #2:Pre-Detonation.If you run non-premium fuel in your older car you will
more than likely here a pinging noise coming from your engine. This is
caused by running gas with not enough octane so the motor fires prematurely, causing a loss in performance and again lousy exhaust emmisions and poor gas mileage. So for a lousy 10 cents a gallon(more or less depending on where you live)you can live a little more hassle free life with your old gas hog.
