Don't Be A "Barefoot Pilgrim!"

Apr 07 '00

"Pilgrim" - One who journeys in Foreign Lands! Today you can go to the InterNet and acquire knowledge of the "kickbacks" the Automobile Dealers receive from the Manufacturers including the holdback for Advertising Allowance.

Knowing the current incentive programs, the rebates, and other special discounts the dealers receive is dealing from strength of knowledge and definitely assists you to negotiate a good deal in most cases. Don't be afraid to let the salesman know you are aware of these discounts.

Most reputable dealers will work with you. Especially if you live in an area that has two or more dealers. If not, look at dealers in another town. Offering them $100 - $300 above invoice less the "Kickbacks" is reasonable, depending on the price of automobile you are purchasing. The more expensive, the more easier it should be to deal.

I am not suggesting you try to buy the car at cost. After all, they are in business to make profit so they can open their doors another day, but they shouldn't try to steal the pennies off your eyes. Try to negotiate so that it is a win, win deal for both parties!

I do not recommend trying to purchase strictly via the InterNet. Too many unknowns!
