Pros: Great performance, good value, and a decent all around truck. Cons: Suspension is a little stiff, larger powerplant means less fuel efficiency.
PURCHASE I purchased a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport at online auction in 2002. I paid $14,200 at the time and this was a fair share beneath the Bluebook appraisal. The condition of the vehicle was excellent and there were 9,350 miles on it. You can find ...

On February 3, 2000, I purchased a 2000 Ford Explorer Sport. I have now driven it 8,000 miles. This review covers why I chose the Sport and describes my impressions.

So, if this turns out to be an ‘advice’ ramble and I catch a lot of flack on this one ... oh well ... but I do feel pretty good about a major move I made in “AUTOLAND” recently and will detail briefly here for you to get any benefit from that you...
Pros: Everything primarily Cons: Limited room in back seat for children with car seats
I purchased my Explorer off the floor in 1998. I was driving a Ford Windstar (due to children) and decided now that the child car seats were no longer needed...and the convenience of the sliding door..I wanted to upgrade to a truck.
Pros: roomy, comfortable, great new design Cons: poor stereo, poor mileage
I bought my 2001 Ford Explorer Sport about 2 months ago. I have driven it about 2100 miles thus far. About 3 months ago I got into an accident with my 1999 Ford Mustang (which I loved to death). I was going to buy another Mustang, but when I got to the...

Pros: excellent build quality, strong value, great brakes Cons: ? just don't go for the base motor for '00
Ford Explorer Sport provides a perfect blend between sport utility capability and practicality for everyday use. While smaller SUVs lack the weight, size, and 4wd ability, larger SUVs sacrifice fuel economy and drivability. For instance, a Honda...
Pros: One fast SUV, 21 MPG, voluminous cargo space, great looking, good build quality. Cons: Leather seats lack good support for long trips, auto-trans likes highest gear, smallish gas tank.
When it came time to replace my towing vehicle, I didn't even consider the Ford Explorer to begin with. It's outdated looks and short list of standard features suffered when compared to more current offerings. Then I saw the newly reskinned 2 door Sport...
Pros: Sporty design, nice options Cons: Gas Guzzling, Ford Creditors very untrusting
My experience thus far with Ford and my Ford Explorer Sport has been subpar. Reviewing an automobile, I'd like to take the more Consumer Reports approach, and just list the good things and the bad things I've experienced since January 2000.
Pros: Great new look, comfy up front, affordable 4x4 Cons: Back seats uncomfortable, hard to get in / out of back seats.
Well, my old SUV was beginning to run up the repair bills so I decided to look into a new SUV. I'd owned a Mercury Mountaineer before, and it is the big plush version of the Ford Explorer. Since I have another car, and rarely drive guests (other than...
Pros: Options, smooth riding, can do anything Cons: Limited seating, cargo space

Pros: GOOD SUV, POWERFUL Cons: STILL TOP HEAVY, POOR FUEL MPG
I just got finished with my road test with the Ford Explorer Sport. I am very impressed with
this vehicle, and the advancements that Ford Motor Company has put into this vehicle.
I drove the Explorer Sport for 3 days, but that was...
Pros: Handles well on the road , good gas milage for SUV Cons: Ford will not repair or stand behind their product unless it becomes very severe with many vehicles . Their idea of many is over 40,000.
In September I purchased my Ford Explorer Sport 2000 model .
At first all was well but once we went in for our 8000 oil change everything went straight down the drain .
Several days later we heard a knock in the engine while the car...
Pros: Roomy, plenty of horsepower Cons: Difficult to get in and out of back seats
That is right. I recently purchased a 2001 ford explorer sport for my wife, and I must say that i was not expecting as much. First let me start with the bad. Since it is only a 2 door people must move the front seats to get in and out. I expected...

Pros: a good vehicle Cons: to me there are no cons
A couple of months I bought a 1991 Ford Explorer XLT. I have always wanted a SUV but could not afford a new one. A good friend of mine, who owns a car lot in Kaufman, had a 1991 Ford Explorer for sale and I bought it. I have not been sorry that I...
Pros: Cool looking, powerful Cons: Tough to get in and out of back seat
I bought this car used about 6 months ago. Although it rides a little bumpy like a truck usually does, I like it more and more every day. Surprisingly, it has plenty of power for pulling away quickly when traffic is tight. It handles very well for city ...

Pros: Great Handling and Comfort Cons: Gas Mileage
This vehicle is a replacement to a 1999 Ford Explorer Sport (See epinion review). I totaled the 1999 in November. Let me tell you one thing, the 1999 fell apart in the accident. I walked away with 3 broken ribs. If you could have seen the truck you...
Pros: good seats, nice exterior styling and sound system Cons: noisy ride, small interior, questionable interior style features
I recently was given a new sport to drive for work. The sport has been our company car for some time now, and I was looking forward to the new model as it has been restyled. First impressions for me are not good in comparison to the last few years...
Pros: Sleek, Roomy, Comfortable Cons: Could use a little more power
Friends, the Ford Explorer Sport is one of the greatest cars made for the working mother or any parent who wants a safe, yet great looking car for their newly-driving teenagers! The Ford Explorer is wonderful for kids who play sports, it's great for...
Pros: Roomy, smooth ride, Lots of options Cons: the negative hype from the tires!
We recently bought a 2001 Ford Explorer, used with only 3500 miles on it. It has the leather package, AM/FM CD and Cassette, upgraded speakers, and power everything! Yet after all this negative hype from the media, we still wanted to purchase it. We...
Pros: Very Comfortable Cons: Hard for some people to get into back seat as it only has two doors.
I bought the 96 Ford Explorer Sports Utility Vehicle for my then
teenage daughter. I wanted a car that I thought would be safe, but fun for her to drive. I feel that I made the right choice. Not only was the car big enough for her, but it was...
Most car manufacturers have a line of cars that are highly profitable because they have not had to change them in years. A few cosmetic upgrades here and there, and the vehicle is launched as a new model year.
Pros: Very quick and powerful for a six cylinder.Great turn radius.Fits in garage. Cons: Gas mileage stinks.Too many recalls and somewhat claustrophobic inside.
I really like this vehicle because its not too large to fit in my garage and it will fit into any parking space. We bought ours a year and a half ago before it was really even out.If you have no kids, it's a great SUV to own but not really practical...
Pros: Control, responsiveness Cons: Space in the rear seats
I will start off by saying that I have had my Black Explorer Sport for about 2 years now and I love it. I will admit that my brother owns a Ford Dealership up here in Vancouver. The truck is very responsive and has smooth pickup for a SUV. It handles...
Pros: nice looking, not too bad on gas, roomy Cons: poorly built, ford will make its money on parts and labor
I have a Ford Explorer Sport and I know I am going to get some flack for writing this epinion but I feel I must voice my epinion anyway. I have read many other epinions about the Ford Explorer and many people seem to love this SUV....I however would...
Pros: Plenty of power, looks, high-up,value, quality, reliability, tows 19 foot boat. Cons: Very stiff ride.
Confession. I am a former member of the "I hate SUV" club. But, having three large dogs, a seven year old, a 19 foot boat that I trailer, a wife who does arts and crafts shows, as well as living in New Hampshire, I had to revoke my membership and...
Pros: The ride, overall comfort and updated power are some of my favorite points Cons: The short wheel base in winter weather and the stereo speakers seem a bit weak
The Ford Explorer Sport is a good all around truck. My wife and I had to decide between it and a 2000 F-150 xtra-cab. Obviously she won...but I have been quite impressed with the little truck. The new 4.0 is a must have. Don't even consider the...
Pros: Good acceleration, sharp looks,ABS brakes, great in the winter, plenty of cargo room Cons: only fits 4 people, not much else
The Explorer Sport is a great vehicle for someone who does not need four doors, because the sport is a lot cheaper than the new four door and the sport trac. Winter time driving is a real treat and the standard ABS is great. Another thing I like about...
Pros: Ride, stability, power, most fun to drive. Cons: Small back seat
I just purchased a Ford Explorer Sport 4x4 via CarsDirect.com and I couldn't be more pleased. It has excellent power, a very smooth and stable ride, and the 4 wheel disc brakes do an outstanding job. This vehicle fits 2 nicely but with only 2 doors it's...
Pros: Smooth ride, reliable, well designed interior Cons: Low miles per gallon, 2 dr design
Before purchasing my Ford Explorer Sport about six months ago I considered a variety of SUVs. I settled on the Explorer Sport because it offered nearly all of the features of more expensive SUVs at a much lower price. The biggest drawback to the...
Pros: Roomy and good turning radius Cons: A/C, Falling apart on inside
When I turned 16, my parents bought me a Ford Explorer (XLT). I love the fact that there is a lot of space in the car and that it has a good turning radius, but everything else is bad. My car is a 1993, but it had a five year warranty under which the...
Pros: Sporty, Quick and Powerful, Rugged enough to handle anything Cons: Gas Mileage

Pros: Nice car. Many options. Cons: Not much room for sitting in the back.
Overall this is a nice car. Whether you lease or buy it, you have many opitions options. It has a nice comfortable ride and is very roomy in the front seats. The back seat dosen't have much leg room, which is understandable though. If you want the...
My job requires me to drive long distances, in a general week I sometimes put 1000-2000 miles on my car. I needed a dependable and comfortable car to drive to my destinations, and my 2001 explorer fills the order. I am very small and most of the other...
Pros: steering, quiet, powerful Cons: brakes, top heavy, fuel economy
The new Explorer sport is an all around great vehicle. The only drawbacks are the low gas mileage and the poor braking. If you jump on the brakes, the ABS usually has to kick in to keep you from going into a skid. Being up high provides great...
Pros: Good Acceleration, Great Audiophile Stereo, Great A/c Cons: Terrifying handling, punishing ride, poor paint, awful MPG
I leased my 2001 Explorer Sport in 2/01, to replace a lemon-lawed Ranger. I should have driven it longer during the test drive. The handling is atrocious, giving the feeling that you will bounce (yes, bounce) off of the road at any time. The...
I bought my 2001 Ford Explorer Sport the beginning of April. All I can say is it really does rock. I have been a jeep person for the past 6 years. I never thought I would want anything else in an SUV. I bought the Explorer Sport because I live in the...
The Sport Trac is not quite a pick-up truck not quite a SUV. The real question is it a 4 door Ranger or a open back Explorer? Down the road the the 6 cylinder engine delivers decent power under all conditions. The four wheel drive system should keep most...
Pros: Solid vehicle, has not left me walking. Cons: Leaky windows, electrical problem.
I currently have 30,000 miles on my 2001 Explorer Sport. I love the ride, and general comfort of it. Drove it through some bad snow storms in Maine, and some thick mud in Vermont. My explorer never left me walking. I have grown a list of complaints. The ...

Pros: Sleek, attractive, fast, nice features. Cons: small backseat. 2-door
I bought a 2001 Ford Explorer in April of 2003. Paid $15,200 for it. Now almost a year later and have had a few problems but am happy with my truck.
Bought the SUV in April of `03. I loved it at first. My first SUV. Black, sunroof, 6-disc changer, thermometer, cumpus, etc. But I realized it was a bit small. Especially the back seat. Also, with the 2-door it is hard to get in and out of.
It can be a bit of a bumpy ride, but that is true for all SUVs.
January, I had to have the power steering rod replaced at 60,000 miles. No big deal, bought the extended warranty.
Overall, I will say I am happy with my car. I will trade it in soon because I have put almost 20k on it in a year.
Pros: It moves and I do not have to walk. Cons: Bad ride, bumpy, air vents broke two months after purchase, brakes are horrible.
I purchased my ford explorer sport back in 2000 and that certainly will be the last Ford purchase for life. The truck has been nothing but a headache for me. Sensor lights are constantly coming on, hatchback will not open--door handle broke, and I have been through way too many brake jobs to even consider buying another poorly made product from Ford!!
Pros: Great power, comfortable, reliable. Cons: None, it's a Ford baby!
I recently bought my 2001 Explorer Sport 4x4 with 27,500 miles. I have always had Rangers and Mustangs before but thought it was time to buy something more practical and with 4 wheel drive for the winter.
Right after I bought the Explorer I took a 1200 mile trip to New Jersey. The Gas mileage was similar to my 4 cylinder Ranger. I am very happy with the power of the 4.0 V-6. The engine is bullet proof. The transmission is a little to soft for my tastes but a aftermarket chip will fix that.
The Explorer sport has great room for a two door SUV and the front seats were very comfortable. This is the first car I've owned were my butt didn't go to sleep on a long trip.
This thing just looks good inside and out and runs great. I would recommend it to everyone. In fact my Fiance` is looking to buy one too.
