Pros: Comfort, Style, Accessories, Drivability Cons: Too discrete, Expensive
Audi A8 is a driver's car. Even though it's a very large car - long and heavy (despite the aluminium body) - it's really fun to drive. As comfortable as this car is, when you get to drive it in a sportive manner - the car becomes "smaller". The A8 turns ...

Best Technology and Ride though phone is disappointment
by robertpica ,Feb 19 '04
Pros: Quattro, Look, Acceleration, MMI System (Onboard Computer) Cons: Phone system, Bumpy ride
I was considering MB 430 AWD, BMW or Audi. I immediately recognized the technology advances over BMW and Mercedes and felt that in view of upcoming model changes at MB and BMW, felt that the A8 was the only choice. The MMI system is quite advanced. Though, buyers need to beware of archaic Motorola V60 phone functionality (Actually may be impossible to open an account with this TDMA model. It does not work with the onboard MMI system and is basically a glorified hands free kit (effectively USD 1,000) for no added value. Voice activation is approximate at best and does not work when raining (outside raindrops interfere).
Suprisingly, none of the professional reviewers noticed that the phone system is archaic and a real problem. The Mercedes S class allows stored numbers to upload to the onboard computer. Another issue to be careful with is the choice of wheel rims. I have the 19" sport tires which account for a hard ride.

2004 A8 Purchase
by rupesh1 ,Mar 30 '04
Pros: Handling, Safety, standard options, interior, leg and trunk space, MMI Cons: Horrible integrated phone system
I leased a 2004 A8 last August.
I test drove the BMW 745il.
The BMW felt more sluggish, and came with many fewer options as standard than the Audi.I am a BMW fan, having owned an M3.
I looked into the Mercedes S class, but to get the car with 4matic, i was looking at at least $75000, again with fewer standard options.
The Audi has a solid feel to it.
The handling is fantastic, including more than enough power on tap for acceleration.
I don't think anyone can outdo the Quattro system.
The MMI is very user friendly, and i can use it without having to look down at the control.
All in All i am very happy, and never get tired of being asked "what is that car you drive!"
