Pros: Well appointed interior, distinctive styling, decent price Cons: Performance wasn't enough, blind spot
I ended up looking at the Matrix simply for comparison after taking a M

for a spin, with the intention of buying something new. Unexpectedly, taking the Matrix for a drive only made the decision ...
I traded my 2000 Ford Focus ZX3 in for the 2004 Toyota Matrix XR. Both are considered crossover vehicles (crossover between a car and an SUV). I love my Matrix, although sometimes I wish I had purchased the XRS with manual transmission. The XRS ...
Pros: Very affordable, AWD availability, roomy interior, great CD/cassette/radio system, Fun interior lighting on Dashboard. Cons: Chrome dashboard reflects in the windshield. Bigger blind spot
I purchased the 2004 Toyota Matrix XR AWD in June 2003. I selected the Matrix because of its price, options, AWD, and because of its sporty look. I first did Internet quotes from 6 local dealerships and negotiated from there. I test drove the car and ...
Pros: Everything about this car is a pro Cons: Haven't found any yet that is of consequence
I wasn't in the market for a new car yet, but once I saw this car, I had to have it. The style is so different from any car I had. I am not a car connoisseur, but it appears that all the other model cars seem to be alike (body wise) except for the ...
Pros: FUN, economical, sporty, lots of room Cons: engine noise
A quick introduction to my reviews: I am new to the area of reviewing vehicles. I will mostly do Toyota, JEEP, and Volkswagen. Please, help me help you by letting me know how my reviews meet or fail to meet your expectations. I will not go into ...
Pros: Roomy, versatile, cute, easy to control in tight parking lots Cons: OEM battery is weak, some internal plastic rattling, could use a little more torque
It's a mid-size car that does just about everything. Comfort and roominess I'm 6'0", and if not for my long torso I'd be in a Honda Civic by now, and I'm kinda glad that I couldn't fit in it, because the Matrix is so much better. Since I ...
Pros: Spacious. Solid. Great quality. Interior design. Cons: Batmobile style
While concluding a long day in the office I was small talking with one of my clients to realize that we both purchased black hatchback cars the previous week. Hatchbacks are a growing segment in a shrinking market (Cars, as opposed to Trucks and SUVs). Fo ...
Pros: Looks good, responsive engine, easy to drive. Cons: Cheap cruise control and wipers, no hatch latch, no off switch for headlights and security.
I have several complaints about the 2005 Toyota Matrix that I recently purchased from Town Toyota of East Wenatchee. Previously I owned a 2001 Kia, before that a 1989 Ford Ranger pickup, my wife still drives a 2001 Kia, and we own a 1996 Safari Trek ...
Pros: Powertrain is great. Will withstand full straight-on frontal impact with a decent size deer. Cons: Mediocre Premium audio. Few blind spots must get used to. Lack of auto sliding Sunroof.
We've all heard about people hitting deer, and some of the associated horror stories. Well.. I hit, and killed a deer this evening. My car has 400 miles on it! I just bought it last week. I did not stop to asses the damage, for I was only a mile or ...
This car has it's highs and lows. Lots of room inside, more than enough to fit 5 people into it comfortably, something impossible in my ZX2. The rear folding seats fold flat leaving lots of room for whatever you need to put there. The storage area and ...
Pros: Speedy, fun to drive, lots of extras for the money, and reliabiltiy to boot!!! Cons: None that I have found yet!
I traded my 2000 Ford Focus ZX3 for a Toyota Matrix XRS six weeks ago. I am glad that I did! The Focus was fun to drive and I loved it but it was not reliable. Little things, somewhat annoying, would go wrong, and there had to have been at least five ...
Better Quality than expected by jjudez14 ,Oct 11 '03
Pros: Versatility, reliability, turning radius is amazing. Like an SUV but not as gas guzzling. Cons: Visibility in mirrors and out rear windows not the greatest.
My wife and I searched for just the right car that allowed her to sit a little higher than in her old nissan sentra. We also wanted versatility (SUV?) - reliability was a major concern. Considered the the Honda CRV, the Toyota Rav 4. Drove the RAV (nice) 4 and then tried the Matrix. The versatility seemed BETTER than either SUV. Seats fold down, hatchback lifts up, all good. Interior quality was a bit better than I expected for what I spent. We have the base Matrix (not the XR)with 2WD, auto trans and option one (Carpeted mats, cargo mat, auto windows, door locks, etc.) Our car had 500 miles on it which makes it NEAR brand new. (Helped lower the price!)Also, some reviews claimed that it would be loud and possibly not have enough pep. My wife and I BOTH agree that it has more pep than we expected and that it is NOT too noisy. Glad we bought it.
Pros: Attractive car that is reliable and safe. Cons: Does drive more like a truck that the Toyota Corolla.
I have a Toyota Matrix XR AWD that I purchased last year. This car is great for so many things from hauling things like TVs and BBQ grills to driving a family around town. We recently had a baby and the police officer who installed the car seat indicated that this car is made to hold a car seat (as opposed to our 2002 Honda). This car does do very well in the snow and ice and therefore makes me feel very safe.
Pros: Great looking and wonderful drive. Cons: Visibility may be an issue for some.
This is the first new or nearly new car I have ever purchased, having driven used all my life, so it was a big step and expenditure.
I had wanted the Protege 5, liking its looks and was then drawn to a silver Matrix. I initially had balked at the Matrix, but decided to give it a test drive. This thing rocks! And that was the regular XR. When I drove the XRS, I was hooked. With 170 h.p. this thing just moves. The 6 speed takes a bit of getting used to but I am glad to went for the higher version.
I love the convenience of the upper and lower hatch -- actually didn't realize this was in the "cross-over" category as others have noted. The radio is fantastic, and the interior quality excellent.
I have noticed the visibility issue, but have yet to see how this impacts on the major roads.
