My baby girl and eczema by ronikaye | Sep 18 '00 I have a beautiful, healthy, happy baby girl. When she started developing a skin problem around her feet and ankles, I took her straight to the doctor. She had redness, flaky, dry, scabby skin around her ankles and on the tops of her feet. Hi-
I came across your article on your baby girls Eczema while looking under the sensitive skin section of Epinions. I am a 19 year old girl in college planning on going into dermatology. I don't know if your daughter still has the eczema or has grown out of it, but please keep me as a resource if you need any help with it.
My mom had the same problem with me when I was a baby. My rash covered my whole body and face and she said it made her cry sometimes. My pediatrician said that my red bumps were an allergic reaction and they watched what foods they gave me but couldn't pinpoint the cause. My mom said she took me to a lot of doctors and no one had an explanation for the rash covering my whole baby body. :( Every doctor said that I had very sensitive skin, but no one said eczema. Anyway when I was 3 I developed the rash again and I had just tried cranberries for the first time so my parents and doctor have kept me away from cranberries for my whole life. Every time I had a rash they would assume I had eaten something with cranberries unless it was summertime, then they would call it heat rash. We used oatmeal baths and many Aveeno products, along with very mild soaps. My parents are very smart, but it was obviously eczema and I don't know how they missed it. When I was around 13 I asked to see a dermatologist because I had developed a rash on my face and that was the last straw. The dermatologist immediately said I have Eczema, and since then I have seen the dermatologist regularly. I have very sensitive skin and my interest in the subject has saved me from breaking out into rashes. I have tried many different prescriptions, including oral steroids when my skin is really bad and I can tell you about any of them. I know it is just skin, but I understand how it can cause extra worry in your life that you don't need and I don't want anyone
else to have to go through it. There are several products that I sware by and several things that I will not do because of my skin. Please please let me know if you ever need help or want to know what materials, soap, routines, etc. I really want to help with skin problems now that I have mastered it for myself! :)

Most kids do outgrow it. My daughter did. She used to have red blotches everywhere (but her face) and people always asked if she had chicken pox. But unlike you, I was told to use oatmeal and it helped (Aveeno)I also used cortizone creams and antihistamines. It would flare up then go away. She did get white patches on her face, but luckily that was all. I'm considering doing a sensitive skin review, not just on her, but the whole family.
