Avoid Micron PC at all costs!
Jan 04 '01
The following is an account of my experience with Micron PC:
I purchased a Micron Millenia Max XP online. It was manufactured and delivered relatively quickly (their shipping is a bit expensive, however). I set it up after it arrived, turned it on, and started through the "Welcome to your new Micron PC" introduction screen. I got the blue screen of death halfway through this process. I was able to load the printer and the zip drive, but while loading our ISP software.....CRASH! While playing Windows Media Player......CRASH! While doing anything else, you got it.....CRASH!
Tech support calls #1 and 2: Dirty load of Windows ME. I run scandisk, then I re-partition and re-format the hard drive and I re-load windows. So far about 4 hours invested. CRASH!
Tech support call #3. Must be the power supply. They have a 300 watt power supply sent out - and an on-site guy comes to install it. 1 more hour invested on the phone, plus 2 more hours arranging my schedule for and being home for the on-site guy. The total time is now 7 hours.
Tech support call #4. Guess what, it's not the power supply. Another hour on the phone, and the tech support guy hints at re-loading windows. I tell him that I am NOT doing it, and that he can pick up the computer and bring it back if that is what needs to happen. He says I need new memory and a new motherboard. 8 hours invested.
The memory arrives, along with an on-site guy to install it. No motherboard. His paperwork just says memory. So he installs the memory, turns on the computer.....CRASH. This time HE gets to spend an hour with the micron tech support (Tech support call #5). NOW they're REALLY going to send out a motherboard. Add 2 hours to the total time invested, since we have to be home for the on-site guy - 10 hours invested.
In spite of all this I'm trying to remain positive, but I feel that Micron needs to do something to address my concerns about the
quality of their system. All I ask for is for them to extend or upgrade my warranty. No-can-do, I'm told.
Their tech support is at least trying, but customer service certainly don't seem to want to keep their customer happy. In what other industry does someone sell you something for $2000, and then expect YOU to spend time trying to fix it?
If you think this is O.K., and you don't
