How to get memory without buying it!

Jan 05 '01

One thing with computers is the limitations, and it usually comes down to the RAM and processor. But without RAM the whole computer would never run. So adding RAM would help if its anything below 32Mb at the moment. Adding RAM to get a total of 64Mb would help things.
For example, when I had my first PC it came with a huge 8Mb (EDO) RAM. Later a friend got me some more. Totalling to 24Mb. When I booted up after the new addition I could deifinetly see an improvement.

SO HOW DO I GET FREE RAM?
Well you can get free RAM easily. As long as you have enough RAM now. Anything above 32Mb would be enough to get back.

EH, WHAT ARE YOU ON ABOUT?

Okay you can get RAM back by getting a RAM reclaimer. There are numerous programs found on the Internet. Seeing as your online now go to
http://download.cnet.com
and type in 'freemem standard' in the search box at the top. (Windows only). When it finds it download the program called FreeMem. This program is one of the uncomplex ways of getting free RAM. All these programs do is get rid of wasted RAm used by the operating system. Not only can you get rid of wasted RAM you can keep an eye on the level of RAM.

Unless you have 128Mb of RAM you'll need this program, especially if you have Windows ME: The new ME version has been known to take RAM is it isn't being used. One thing that has angered me about the otherwise fine OS.

CONCLUSION:

Well thats the best way of getting free RAM, until you buy extra RAM its the best way to keep you system free of crashes and slow downs.
On the other hand though, you can still use them even if you have 128Mb or more RAM. As I have the FreeMem program in Windows ME, with 256Mb of RAM on my PC I have 43.5MB free! Using the program I can free...102Mb. It does take some CPU power but without it we'd all run out of memory.
