When we were about to have our first baby we thought, ok we need a camcorder and a digital camera. While looking around and pricing we found we really couldnt afford both and tried to find a way to make it so I could still take pictures for auctions or pictures of our little one easily at home without the big cost of buying both.
So we bought our camcorder and looked around and even asked the guy we were talking to about our camcorder. Well, he mentioned Snappy, so we went looking where he said we could find it. Found it and was amazed at the price, paid like $150 and that included some free software as well. Plus at the time was a rebate for snappy when you bought both snappy and a camcorder.
Got it home and couldnt wait to get it hooked up to system. We added another parallel port to save money on buying a switch for it seeing we had room. To hook it up it is quick and simple, just plug in snappy to parallel port, make sure to tighten it down good, the knobs can be difficult to turn. Need to make sure it is tightened down good because if it isnt tight you will probably get cant find snappy error and if your system is moved around alot or where cords get tripped on might want to check snappy every so often to make sure still on tight.
Then just go thru the software and click a bunch of ok's and next and you are all set. Next you just plug snappy cord into your camcorder and away you go. Click SNAP to take a picture. Simple as can be. Harder for moving pictures til you get the hang of some of the features but not all that hard to play around with and figure it out. We bought it mainly for taking pictures for auction listings but also to take some pics of little one once in a while.
I have gotten alot of use out of it just for taking still pictures and highly recommend snappy to anyone thinking of getting a digital camera especially if main reason for digital is for auction pictures or still pics. It is alot cheaper than most digital cameras.
Many other features as well with it, but I usually just save the picture and use editing software to crop and edit pictures as I already knew that software and didnt really look into what I could do with snappy as far as cropping, etc.
