| starbellie's Full Review: Wacom Graphire Pen & Mouse Set |
i used to won a wacom 12x12 tablet many years ago and i must say it was extremely underutilized. it also cost me a few paychecks back then. so when i decided to purchase one of these i figured worst case...i was out $90 as opposed to the $500+ i spent before. i needed the tablet to paint masks on video footage for a project at work. it can be quite difficult to naturally paint with a clunky mouse in hand and figured a tablet would suit my needs well. i was very skeptical of it's cordless tools and small price tag. was I ever wrong!
the pen is comfortable and light. the battery-less and cordless pen works like a charm. soft tip, functional eraser and a programmable button can all be programmed to do what you like in various applications. the sensitivity of the tip for varying brush sizes an opacities works very well. it was not hard to get used to all and has already paid off.
the mouse i just don't understand. it seems kind of useless on such a small pad and it ended up in a drawer. some people may like to use it as it does have the two buttons plus a scroll wheel.
wacom has been very successful at gaining support from application developers and this shows in their software. the software lets you select from a ton of options to refine your usage of the tools. as i use two 21' monitors, the ability to limit pen movement to one monitor was a big plus. this makes the small 4"x5" working area quite alright. i can program the pen's features to perform various functions in different applications without continuously switching my settings. because the pad will work to scale i have not found the small size to be any problem at all.
one of my favorite features is that is uses the USB to power everything. this combined with it's small size and light weight means i can toss the tablet and pen in my bag and use it at home as well.
wacom proved to me that great things can once in a great while come at an affordable price! the color selection is a pleasing touch though no surprise. at $99 you simply cannot go wrong. highly recommended for anybody in the graphics business or just somebody that likes to toy around in photoshop and similar. wacom...thank you.
