| ppoggione's Full Review: Dell Inspiron 3500 A366GT |
I am a corporate systems administrator as well as having my own consulting company. I have purchased 6 of these in the past 3 years and have had very little trouble with them. I did have to send one back to DELL due to a malfunctioning display and had another that had the PCMCIA modem (PSION) burn out. But I'm not reviewing the modem! I also personally own one of these and have abused it to no end (not on purpose) and it keeps right on working. I have run WIN98, WINNT 4.0 as well as redhat Linux 5.2 on this particular machine as well. There are some limitations with display drivers under Linux unless you go with a 3rd party XServer but I was not willing for fork over the cash to test it. The active matrix display is crisp and bright. Very easy on the eyes. With the large size of the display it seemed a little on the unstable side and the plastic covers over the screws that hold the display to the case broke off easily. I'm still not a fan of the glide pad mouse and use an external logitech on mine. I have worked with Thinkpad's, SONY's and Compaq's but none of them seem to me as reliable as the DELL.
