Back in June I decided to purchase a domain name. This would be my first go at something like this so I contacted a good friend mine to ask where he started and he put me in touch with his Domain Host. The Host Company told me that my first step would be to contact Network Solutions via phone or go to their site and secure my domain name. I was really excited about all of this and went straight to the site where I checked the name and found that it was available. My next step was registration process.
I completed the online registration with no problems and then contacted my Host provider to let them it was done. I was told that I should receive a confirmation within a few hours from Network Solutions. Well a few hours past by and nothing; not even a confirmation that my request was being processed by Network Solutions. I did not pay it much attention because it was Sunday afternoon so I just put it aside until Monday.
Monday came around and still nothing. About noon I received an email from my would-be Domain Host asking me if I still intended to register my name. I replied telling them that I was waiting for Network Solutions. I then received a reply back saying that something must have went wrong and I was given a number to contact Network Solutions with. I called the number and was talking to a live person within 25 minutes (record time). I explained what had happened and the gentlemen I spoke with could not find a record of Sundays transaction and recommended that I do the registration again. He then offered to walk me through the registration process. Within a matter of minutes the registration was complete and I had an email confirmation of the transaction. Within a few hours my name was approved and my site was ready for construction, all was well.
Here is where the fun starts. In July I received my credit card billing statement and found a charge from Network Solutions on the 18th & 19th of June. The registration may not have gone through on the first attempt but they got my money on the first attempt and second registration. This was in a way my fault for not calling my card company before registering the second time around. So I tried calling Network Solutions to get a credit, well after about 45 minutes of holding for customer service I got someone who's only mission it seemed was to get me to apply the additional payments so I would have a 4 year registration. When he finally realized I was not going to give, he asked me to "hold for a minute please". When he came back he asked me to please give it a week for the computer to pick up the error and I would then been issued a credit to my card. A week goes by and still no credit so I decided to call after holding 45 minutes of holding I decided to write what would be the first of three letters which to this day have received nothing but automated responses.
Finally after a month of long holds on the telephone and three letters I had to resort to contacting my Credit Card Company, problem solved. The reason for this epinion is to let you know the communication at Network Solutions needs some serious work and always check with your credit card company before re-submitting an online order.
