| marinaking's Full Review: HP Pavilion 6653C |
Our old computer was a Packard Bell with 16 MB RAM and a 250 MB hard drive (I still can't believe we could actually use Windows 95, various children's educational CDs and even chat in Yahoo with that stone age computer!) so OBVIOUSLY we needed a new computer really bad! We chose this HP 6653C (which by the way is available only at Wal-Mart) for 3 main reasons: 128 RAM; the CD RW; and the price. Not the top of the line, but it meets our needs.
We have tons of stuff loaded on this computer, but the 15 gig hard drive is barely 1/4 used up.
The Adaptec software that comes pre-loaded is easy to use; we have copied and made many audio and data CDs.
It also has Encarta Encyclopedia, Microsoft Money, Quicken, and McAfee anti-virus. It's easy to download the latest updates to the McAfee.
The keyboard has many "one button" features like Connect to the Internet, Standby, Shortcuts, Shopping, Entertainment, E-Mail, etc, etc. We used them all at first, but now we just do it the old fashioned way.
The only complaint we have is the speakers/sound. I've had $10 alarm clock radios that sounded better!
So we went to Circuit City and bought some computer speakers with a subwoofer for $40, and voila! Our HP is now perfect!
We absolutely love this computer.
This is a great computer for average people (not techies) who want to surf the net, make CDs, play games, etc. I don't think it would be a good choice for techies or serious gamers because of the 15 inch monitor and Celeron processor, but we are just regular old thirty somethings with 3 kids, so this HP is perfect for us.
