Pros: Good graphics, hidden characters and costumes.
Cons: The game is slightly more sexist than most other games out there.

| Spikor's Full Review: Dead Or Alive for PlayStation 1 |
The only thing that can be said about "Dead or Alive" is that it is an average game. Average graphics, average game play. There are a few original elements to the game, but for the most part, this is just another fighting game that's worth a rental.
The most original aspect of the game, however, is also the most bizarre. In the options menu, there is an option entitled "Bounce". All I can say is that it only applies to the female characters, and only a certain part of their anatomy. I'll admit that like most guys, I'm sick enough an individual to find this option hilarious, however, some might find it offensive.
Another of the original aspects of the game are the playing field. Your characters fight on a square arena, or safe zone, and outside of the designated playing field is kind of like a mine field. If your character falls on the ground there, a large explosion causes damage to your character, and throws him/her into the air, allowing for a juggle combo or two. The options menu allows you to alter the size of the safe zone, the damage caused by the explosions, and how high in the air it throws your character. Playing with these can add new interest to the game when you tire of the regular game.
There are enough hidden things in the game to keep you playing for a week or two. The male characters each have five costumes, three of them hidden. The female characters have 14 different costumes each, 12 of them hidden. The female character's extra costumes make use of the "Bounce" option as well.
In all, the game is good, but not really noteworthy for anything except as an example of the Video Game industry's amazing ability to degrade women. But chances are anyone playing the game, just isn't going to care.
