I just bought this product. And I am going to return it ASAP! I was looking for something cheep, yet good. This camera seemed to have what i needed. When i installed it, the picture quality was VERY poor (esp compared to OTHER cameras of the same time, web cam). I WAS ready for the fact that the picture quality would not be outstanding, but it was MUCH worse then expected. No matter what I did with the software and the lens, the pictures always seemed (are) blurry and lacking sharpness. I have a pentium II 400 mhz machine, and it seemed to bog it down a bit too.
The video quality was just like the picture quality, except the video took up a tremendous amount of space. I was wondering what was being done w/ all the space since it didn't seem to be going toward picture quality. Keep in mind when I talk about the quality, I set the camera to 640 by 480 resolution with maximum bit rate (i forgot what it is really called).
I found it strange that the quality was so bad because I DO have a creative labs CD-RW drive and that has been outstanding, also I belive they make EXCELLENT sound cards. Anyway. I must talk about the good point of the camera to be fair.
I DID like the fact that it was a USB device, that meant that I didn't have to mess with a slow parallel port or install another card. It was compact and could be put anywhere. And the software was fairly easy to use. But that's about the extent of it. Anyway, the bottom line is, you get what you pay for. If you are serious about a web camera, you will not buy this model. Oh yes, I paid about 36 bucks for it @ buy.com. However, if you don't mind spending 36 bucks on something cheep, and pretty much effective, by all means, buy this camera. Like I said, if you want really good quality, you won't buy it.
