I received a Philips 400 series internal CD-RW drive for x-mas,
and it is a fairly good product. It writes and re-writes at 4x, and reads
like any other cd drive at 32x, which is good for these type of drives. I
easily installed the drive without the use of any tools, and the simple
instructions made it a piece of cake. The set-up is automatic as soon as
the computer turns on and recognizes a new drive has been installed, and
you are guided completely through the set-up process. I followed the
instructions for the write2cd software included in the kit, and it was
installed and works well also. I have made audio CDs and data CDs, and
both work well. The only downside is the software does not recognize
about 5 or 10 percent of the mp3s I have on my computer. I have contacted
the manufacturer and they cannot answer my question. This is a minor
inconvenience, but still a pain when you cannot add some of your favorite
mp3s to CDs, which is why I wanted the product.
All things considered, it is a very good product and the price is well worth paying for the ability to create your own CDs. Anyone who wants the reliability of a major brand name, Philips, and doesn't want to pay over $500 for a seperate CD burner would like this product very much. I've also found the e-mail tech support to be very good, and fast to reply.
