| Hunter_OSU's Full Review: Dell Inspiron 7500 R500VT |
f Originally I began hunting down a laptop that would be a significant addition to my desktop system. In the process I started looking for reviews on DELL laptops. What I had wanted was the 5000 series, however that was not available with pre-installed Windows 2000. After talking on the phone with the tech support for DELL I discovered that there was no guarantee for Windows 2000 compatibility. In light of this I decided to go with the 7500 series, despite the weight difference. So what did I think of the 7500? After DELL messed up the tracking code and I was unable to locate the laptop in shipping it finally arrived. This is the one laptop that has definite DROOL factor. My roommate is a computer tech and said that "its the nicest laptop he's seen to date". Normally that wouldn't be such a big deal, but he's pretty hard to impress when it comes to computer hardware. I was definitely pleased myself. The 15" monitor, SXGA with the 8MB ATI Rage Pro, was SUPER clear, Windows 2000 runs smooth, and the options available were insane. If you're out to find a NT/2000 laptop capable of dwarfing that little kid next door's computer, this is the one. The one thing that I tire of is everyone who writes a review on this laptop complains about the weight. What I have to say on that is when you buy a Ford Excursion, you don't complain about the gas mileage. So when you buy a tank of a laptop expect it to be heavy. I compensated by purchasing a Kensington saddle pack. The pack has backpack/sidepack ability. The other thing about this laptop is that if you're getting a 7500...which is almost a server in itself get a good operating system. THIS IS NOT A GAMING LAPTOP. The fact is that laptops do not have nearly the graphic card ability that a desktop for half the price would have. Bottom-line, this is a power user laptop.
