One Year with an Acer laptop
Mar 14 '00
So I've had an Acer Extensa 368D for a year now. Am I satisfied? Yes. Am I happy? No.
Here's the lowdown, which you should consider if you're buying any Acer portable:
- The screen is awful. This passive matrix screen is one of the worst you'll find. The contrast varies wildly each time you boot it up, and it's not very bright and tough to read at any angle. Worst of all, the original screen got "foggy" in the middle, then developed a big black bar across the middle. Now on my second screen (replaced free by Acer because of my job), the fog is starting again. Ugh.
- No RAM, and no video RAM either. The RAM has been upgraded; the VRAM is something you're stuck with.
- The keyboard is mushy. This review was typed on the Extensa -- slowly.
- The battery blows wind. About 90 minutes on a good day.
- The price is right! At less than $1300, this was pretty much the cheapest machine on the market. I got what I paid for.
Keep this in mind when considering Acer products.
