Print Shop has been a big part of my life for several years now. It is a program which enables you to make more projects than you could ever believe possible!
I use it to make many signs, banners, tests, and letters for my classroom and school. Before Print Shop, I spent hours and hours using stencils and bugging my sister the artist to help me with school projects. I also spent several hours a week, composing letters on my typewriter. Now I just click up my program, type, put in graphics, move and size and - voila - a professional looking project is completed!
People are amazed at my PrintShop projects! Everyone now begs me to do projects for them! Here is a tip: HIDE YOUR WORK!!! If not, you too will be bombarded with requests! Here's a better tip: CHARGE MONEY FOR YOUR WORK! I haven't done that yet because I am just one of those people who can't say no but you - you could make some moolah!
I once made a bit of money myself with this program. When PS started working on a guide for teachers, I sent them five of my own lesson plans and they actually paid me to use them in their guide!
I have tried several other publishing programs and find PrintShop to be the easiest and most versatile. There are several versions of PS, the latest is PS 10 which comes with over ten CDRoms to help you with publishing. Every version easily guides you through your projects. You can choose a ready-made project that they have designed for you, a walk-through project where they help you with each step or a blank project for people who have been using the program for a while and know how to navigate on their own.
There are several types of projects that you can choose from:
1. Greeting Cards
2. Banners
3. Letterhead
4. Pamphlets
5. Signs
6. Business Cards
7. Certificates
8. Labels
9. Postcards
10. Online Greetings
11. Post it Notes
12. Blank Project
You may choose from a list of several things to add to your projects:
1. Headline - Choose font, color, outline, pattern, shape, etc... to make any headline.
2. Graphic - Choose from a long list of graphics which come in square, column and row sized pictures. You can easily import your own graphics also. I often insert a photograph into my projects.
3. Text - Choose size, font, color, position, background, wrap around graphics etc...
4. Borders and lines - Choose from several patterns of horizontal or vertical lines to inseet. You can also choose several full page borders or mini borders which you size yourself.
5. Panel Effects - Choose a color or background for your project.
6. Custom Graphics - This is where you can design your own logos, timepieces, seals, signatures, etc...
7. Photo Workshop - This is where you can import a photo and change its shape, add a frame to it, or enhance it.
I have written many invitations for all types of affairs using PS and whenever I make one, people think they were professionally done and ask where I had them made. I have also made business cards for several people using PS.
I have saved hundreds of dollars at the card store by using PS to make my own cards. Here are a few tricks to making great cards:
1. Buy heavy card stock from an office supply store. It comes in white or assorted colors.
2. Use half-fold rather than quarter-fold.
3. Don't forget to buy 6 by 9 booklet envelopes
4. Paste real photographs in your cards (cut and paste from your computer - Do not use real glue!)
5. Add your customized logo on the back of every card!
I have been writing a monthly newspaper for my school for the past three years. You guessed it - using PrintShop!
