The Compaq presario 1700 series is the best I have ever seen from the point of view of value for money. The machine is perfectly and cleverly configured and works just fine. It comes with Windows ME and the machine supports it very well. The keyboard and the touchpad are ergonomically designed.
It's touchpad is simply superb to use. The stereo speakers are also very nice and hearing on the headphones, you don't require any other speakers! The most important thing about Compaq is their excellent after-sales service network. If you have a hardware problem just walk-in to any store dealing in Compaq like Radio Shack or Circuit City or CompUSA.
No hassles. Also, their online software and hardware support through internet and phone is excellent. They help with great patience and care even in the middle of the night! I had called them up at 1:00 am in the morning just to check their services and asked them 5 different questions about various software and hardware issues. And they analyzed each question in great detail and gave extremely logical answers. This phone call took about 1.5 hours but it was worth it. Hats off to Compaq for such a nice service!
I also tested the machine by keeping it on for 24 hours straight and running various softwares and downloading other softwares. The machine was very smooth and didn't crash even a single time!
