I purchased this product for our group in our area. We needed to backup our laptops and desktop machines. Some of the machines had USB and some did not. All have PCMCIA, but many use both slots already. Hence the combination of the parallel and the USB is nice. It is too bad that we could not have gotten all 3 as a choice.
I read the opinions and we needed a tool that was easy to install and something that was stable for the entire group. I have used Backpack's before and they have always been simple to configure.
I still haven't been able to make the product work properly with NT V4.0 on the parallel cable. I also haven't had much success with the USB port using windows 98.
Last, if the drive is not hooked up to one of the computers, it always comes up with a directcd.dll error and that is annoying. Since the drive will never be attached to all the computers, it would be nice to be able to eliminate this error.
Installing the product on Windows 95 was relatively simple and straightforward using the parallel cable.
Once it was setup, it did work fairly well. However, the speed through the parallel port did not give me the boasted 20 minute CD, but a 40 minute - 60 minute CD thus far. Speed was not a primary concern for me. Ease of use was.
Based on the fact that I have no other CD-RW to rate this against. I have to look at it compared to other people who have installed the drive and other products out there.
