We had the TNT then the TNT 2 then the TNT Ultra and TNT value card. Vida has used the same series again with its Geforce range. We had the Geforce and the Geforce 2 then game the value card the Geforce 2 MX, and the Ultra card has already been released.
Just like many value cards the architecture of the card is the same as its bigger brother but the clock speed and the memory speed are lower and there is not as many pipelines as the Geforce 2. This obviously reduces performance but by how much?
Well unless you are running the latest games in hi resolutions then you may not even notice the difference. People say you can get over 100 Fps in certain games with the latest cards. 100Fps! Can you really tell the difference between 100Fps and 80Fps, I doubt it, Can your monitor even display 100Fps allot cant. Maybe you should take all these things into consideration before spending all that extra money on a Geforce 2.
Maybe on the other hand you do need it or you are buying for the future, in which case the Geforce 2 MX is not as Future proof as the Geforce 2 GTS.
Lets look at the specifications of the Geforce 2 GTS and the Geforce 2 MX
Geforce 2 MX
------------
Clock speed - 175Mhz
Memory speed - 286Mhz
Memory size - 32Mb DDR
Peak fill rate - 350Million Pixels/s
Triangles /s - 20 Million
Geforce 2 GTS
------------
Clock speed - 200Mhz
Memory speed - 350Mhz
Memory size - 64Mb DDR
Peak fill rate - 800Million Pixels/s
Triangles /s - 25 Million
As you can see the stats of the GTS are far superior, but the MX stats are not actually that bad. Looking at the Peak fill rate you can see why the Geforce 2 GTS is better when using hi resolution games. When running games in hi resolution there are far more pixels to draw, since the Geforce 2 GTS can draw twice as many pixels per second than the MX, you can easily see that the GTS is the only choice for HI-res, for 1024x768 and below nothing is wrong with the MX. For most of us that is absolutely fine when it comes to gaming.
