Pros: Works fine.

Most people will shun this drive based on the brand name... ARTEC. What the hell kind of a name is that for a hardware maker? They should have called their company Whoopass or Destroyer. And then gave the drive a name like "the Hellburner" or "The CD Whippinator." And then on the box, they should have put some half naked chicks and some fire to get people to buy it. Man, they should hire me for their marketing department.
Well, even if they don't give me a call for a job, they will be selling quite a few of these puppies. For $150, this is a quality burner. When I first took a look at the stats for the burner. I noticed something that made me very dissapointed. A 2 MB buffer. This is the standard for most burners. For those that don't know already, this buffer is the most important feature of a CD-RW Drive. THis is what keeps you from getting those crazy buffer under run errors that make coasters out of CD-R's. I wouldn't settle for anything under 4 MegaBytes. But I guess I did, and I was pleasantly surprised too see that it burned nicely at 8x, it's maximum speed, although the buffer did drop to about 25% every once and a while during this. At lower speeds, I was able to work on other demanding tasks (Photoshop, Illustrator), while it was burning in the background. Very Impressive. I have burned almost 100 CDs on in (including a few rewritables), and have not botched a single one.
The included software, NERO V.5.0 is the best burning software you can buy. It will allow you great control over the types of CD's you can burn, including PlayStation and Dreamcast Copy's.
For $150, you can't find a better burner.
