HP Omnibook 5500CS

An ancient machine in the computer world. The BIOS is dated 1996. I bought it at auction, for cheap, and hoped it would be marginally useful.
I was wrong... It isn't marginally useful, it's tremendously useful.
These machines were built to last. The keyboard is tight and all the keys respond perfectly. The screen is clear and bright. Everything works.
I've carried it on several trips now, and would hate to be without it. It's great for on-the-road Internet access (with a 28.8 Megahertz PC card modem). It's great for storing digital photos on the road. It's great for writing anywhere I am.
The processor is a slow old Pentium 100, but that never bothers me. You don't really need a 1 Ghz processor for collecting your email and running a word processor.
My advice: If you can find one of these old machines at auction, go for it. They're workhorses.
