| LoreenP's Full Review: Sony Spressa Professional |
My husband and I decided to get a RW-Drive specifically for burning our larger files onto CD's to save up room on my desktop's hard drive. Specifically, large MS Excel and Access files, like financial budgets, inventory, etc. These files alone were taking at least 45 seconds to open on my desktop with my 366 MHZ computer. Yes, I know, a 366 is MUCH slower and older than the 800 they have now, but it suits me just fine with what I use it for. I'm not a game person, I just use my computer for our home business of antique glass and pottery that we sell on eBay. BUT, my 3 year old daughter loves to use the computer, and with that, this is another great reason why we bought the Sony Spressa. The reason is, and I know you're not supposed to burn copy game cd's, but this is for our personal use, not third party sales. Kids can wreak havoc on cds. The cds end up with so many scratches, even the fastest computer isn't going to read them. So, with this new re-write drive, we figure we can save hundreds of dollars alone in copying my daughter's games BEFORE they got ruined. Let's say, make 3 copies of a game...when one gets scratched up and we notice lock-up problems, we just pop in the next, and burn another for safe keeping. It's as easy as that. And I mean that, it's THAT easy. We purchased our SONY Spressa on eBay, so it didn't come with all the bells and whistles like it would from a store. But it did come with a great HOTBURN software that is easier to use than an ATM machine. We purchased the 8x4x32 Spressa, and it suits our needs just fine. It took 2 minutes to burn a Pokemon game for my nephew that was about 200 megs. My husband has recently began downloading quantum physic BOOKS from the internet and can easily burn them onto a data cd, and carry it with him to read whenever he's near a computer. We've had this for a week now, and I can't believe we waited so long before purchasing one. The only thing I don't like about the drive is that it is louder than just READ drives when it's spinning. As far as burning some songs...well, I haven't bought a music CD in about 10 years, and I'm 30. All because I like one song, but I'm not spending 15+ dollars for one song on a CD. Now I can download a song from great MP3 sites and burn a WHOLE cd of my eclectic favorites. Ahhh, just what I've been looking for!
