| cronio's Full Review: WebGear Aviator 2.4 Wireless Networking |
A few months ago, I decided to network my house, but really did not have the money to wire the whole house with ethernet cable. I did some looking, and found the Aviator 2.4, which seemed my best option. Well, installing it was easy (except on one machine, which had some hardware conflicts), since they link to the Linux drivers for it on their web page, it was easy to set up my server to let all the computers use the internet at once. There is one problem with the Aviator2.4 though: speed. Unlike with ethernet, it can't even go as fast as the cable modem. Also, if you're transfering files between computers, it uses up all the bandwidth, meaning the internet comes to a crawl. For this reason, I wish I had spent the extra thousand dollars on wiring my house, instead of gotten the Aviator2.4.
I would recommend this if you are just a casual surfer, or just need some way to interact between computers in your household. Otherwise, spend the extra money to wire your house for ethernet.
