On a scale of 1 to 5000

On a scale of 1 to 5000, the Dell Inspiron 5000 is rated a 5000.I am responsible for buying the laptops for the salesman at my company (200 field salespeople), and I have one myself.
I would recommend choosing the 15 inch XGA screen because two or three people can sit and easily view the screen. This makes it very useful if presentations or video clips are being presented to clients. I would also recommend paying the $75 extra dollars to upgrade the video card from 4MB to eight MB. This will significantly enhance the display. One of the newest enhancements to the Inspiron 5000 is a bay for the floppy drive. this means that users do not have to use one bay for both the CD ROM drive and the floppy drive....each has their own bay.
The warranty coverage is 3 years....first year on-site. You can upgrade to 2 or 3 years on-sight for about $150.00. I would not recommend. If something goes wrong in the second or third year, Dell is prompt about repairing and returning systems when mailed to their repair facility.
My final recommendation would be to purchase their backpack with college logo. If you travel, the standard Dell laptop bag looks just like that...a standard laptop bag. With the number of thefts of laptops, the backpack with college logo does not advertise that you are carrying a laptop.
