| seibk726's Full Review: eMachines eMonster |
My boyfriend and I were looking into buying a computer. We researched several brands and settled for an eMachine eMonster 500a. We mainly went with eMachines because of the price, we did not want to sink a lot of money into a computer. We just wanted something to use for accessing email, games, and the Internet.
Circuit City had an open box eMonster with DVD that was about $400 that carried the same warranty as buying it new. We bought a monitor and scanner and received a mail-in rebate and also took advantage of the Compuserve $400 instant credit for signing up for 3 years Internet access. Or total cost, after rebates, was $350. This included the scanner and monitor. That was right in our prince range.
We brought it home, hooked it up and were immediately impressed with the speed of the Pentium 3 500 MHz processor. The 13 GB hard drive is large enough that most people could never use it to it's full potential. Also, the 64 MB of RAM is sufficient without running large applications.
I would recommend this computer to anyone that just needs a basic computer. It may not be top of the line, but it suits our simple needs. Why pay more for something we don't need?
Only one problem so far. It seems to lock up after a few hours in sleep mode, and we have to reboot to get it back up and running. Other than that, this has been the best purchase I believe we could have made.
I wish the speakers that were included were higher quality. It makes the system look undesirable. We got new speakers that complete the look of the system.
For the price, it cannot be beat!
