Pros: None Cons: Very difficult to use and didn't work.
My son's Sponge Bob PlayStation CD was used as a chew toy by our puppy so instead of going out and repurchasing a new game at $50, I figured I would try the SkipDr. for $10. I purchased the SkipDr, on sale for $10.00 at BestBuy in April 2003. What I ...
Pros: Works great on cds, easy to use! Cons: flimsy plastic parts, horrible packaging, the hand crank.
While at Costco, I spied the Disk Dr. Repair kit. My parents have a few cds that have gotten stuck in their disk changer, and I have a few that need to be resurfaced as well. So, we went ahead and bought it. For 25 dollars it looked like a really good de ...
Pros: Cheap, really fixes discs, nice instruction booklet, save a lot of money. Cons: Design, cheap plastic, expensive, leaves ugly spiral designs on your CDs.
Since CDs have been out to the public since 1983, there have been special rules on how to take care of them for maximum enjoyment. Who can actually own a CD for more than a year without having any kind of scratch on it? It's nearly impossible, folks. ...
Makes previously unusable CD's usable by bobjohn1 ,Jan 01 '05
Pros: Takes out many scratches. Cons: Leaves odd pattern.
I bought the Skip Dr. after my son was complaining that one of his games wasn't running properly. I gave him the lecture about how "If we take care of things, they won't break." I tried to fix the scratches by using a paste, but it didn't work. The next time I was in Radio shack I saw this and picked it up. I fixed my son's CD and he tested it out. He played the entire thing without a hitch!
The Skip Dr. works, as advertised, by taking out almost all minor scratches, some deeper scratches, and no label-side damage. It also takes care of smudges and smears.
Pros: Fixed music CDs, PC Game Disks, and greatly improved skipping DVDs. Cons: Not the best design, flimsy plastic and doesn't fix everything.
I bought this item a couple years ago when my 2 year old emptied every music CD we own out of their cases and slid them around on a hardwood floor...lost about 15 music CDs to scratches and then I found SkipDr at local electronics store. It rescued all but 2 of the music CDs and greatly reduced the number of skips on those two. Once the 2 year old discovered the computer, and abused several PC game disks, SkipDr repaired them too. Now she's 5 with a 3 year old brother and into DVDs, which get abused too. While it takes most of the skips out of the DVDs, it takes 2-4 "sessions" of the skip Dr to get them out, and doesn't get them all, but the DVD is still watchable. I can't complain, it's rescued hundreds of dollars of CDs/DVD/Computer Games for us, so it was worth the $. Is it cheap plastic? Yeah. Do you need to read ALL of the directions first? Yeah. Does it fix everything? No, but it makes it better than it was...plus, your arms get a good workout in the process...
I bought this unit at Costco to fix a few DVDs. I have tried it on 3 different problem disks. It id not fix any of the three disks. I would say two of the disks only had light scratches, one had a heavy scratch. I am going to try to return my unit.
My SkipDR could use a doctor right now by its5150time ,Dec 18 '03
Pros: It's made to LOOK like it actually repairs scratched disks. Cons: Poorly written/confusing/contradictory instructions.
Wimpy plastic body.
Overpriced (I paid over $30 for this thing).
A bad sign right from the start was the ensemble of returned SkipDRs that were in line with new stock at my local Frys Electronics. I DID purchase a SkipDR in an un-opened box.
There isn't much to tell other than I followed all enclosed instructions (destructions?) and began to turn my CD COUNTERCLOCKWISE (in step 3 just like the instructions state)...
*CRACK*
Next thing I know I'm holding the crank handle in one hand and the rest of this pathetic repair tool in the other. Note that step 4 states you should "Always turn the crank in a CLOCKWISE direction." Ehhh...should I have read step 4 first?
I'm not exactly a Lenny, so something like this should simply not happen. They should take the thing back to the design board and create a crank that can withstand the awesome upper body strength of an average 30-year old male.
Pros: It's nice when it works
Works more often on Audio CD's Cons: Works less often on data CD's
Only works sometimes
I get CD's from the used CD store all the time, and as you may imagine, they're often scratched.
The process is simple, click the CD in place, spray it, turn it around clockwise, spray it, turn it around counterclockwise, dry it, and buff it.
Today I had an Alien Ant Farm CD that had 3 tracks which wouldn't copy on my computer. After running the disc through the process, none of the tracks had errors. It's a miracle.
But I've had burned CD's that were left in 256 Cd cases that bumped up against eachother, and wouldn't copy. These did not work with the Skip Dr.
Overall, if you listen to a lot of music CD's, it's worth it, but data doesn't do as well.
Pros: None Cons: Doesn't work with PS2 discs! It screws them up!
I'm a PS2 gamer. After lots of uses, one of my games eventually got scratched and some scenes/maps got screwed up. So I bought Skip Dr, followed the instructions by the letter, and guess what? The disc didn't get recognized by the PS2 anymore!
That was a year ago. Now it happened with another game. One of the first scenes (when starting a new game) got stuck, and i noticed some scratches on the disc. Skip Dr'ed it, and now it didn't even boot up. Well yeah, it showed the "Playstation 2" logo but then failed on loading.
So, I applied the procedure AGAIN, and now it immediately jumps to "please insert a valid Playstation 2 disc" blahblah. Did it two more times, and nothing. Now it's TWO games that my SkipDr has flatlined.
