| damanger's Full Review: Canon i 550 Ink-jet Printer |
I have had a Hp Desk-jet 610c Color Printer for the fast 2 years. A great printer, never had a problem with it, but it printed extremely slow, and the picture print quality was really poor. Now that me and my future wife, had decided months ago, that we were going to print or own Wedding invitations, it put us in the market for buying a new printer.
Our search for a new printer was short and sweet. We had a limited budget, and he needed a high quality printer (not high photo quality, just normal color print quality). The Canon i 500 Ink-Jet Printer, offered both those features plus a few others.
First, the price. We paid $110 for the printer, and for the amount of work it has done, and the quality we have received from it, it was worth every penny. And second, the print quality was great, as pictures were vibrant, never streaked or blurred, and heck, with photo paper, we had a new way to print our digital photos.
The Canon i 550 also has individual color ink cartridges. The main advantage to this feature, is that it allows you to replace one color of ink cartridge when it runs out, and not wasting the other colors, that might still be full. We found this feature critical, as our invitations that we were printing were mainly blue, and we went through 4 blue ink cartridges. The price of $10 for a blue ink cartridge, does beat having to replace a whole tri-color ink cartridge that would cost around $35.
The printer was very easy to setup. The software bundle came with some photo-shop programs, which became useful when we started printing photographs. It is very light and compact, and prints very quickly and quietly. The only downfall to this printer is that the first page you print takes a scan of the document being printed and about 10-30 second wait can become very annoying.
The ink cartridges are very easy to install, as you just snap them in. Also, the program that comes with the printer software, allows you to see how much ink is left in each of the 4 (black, cyan, magenta, yellow) cartridges at any point in time.
My overall opinion of this printer is quite high. The main purpose we bought it, was to affordable print out our wedding invitations, which it did very well. In fact, many people complimented our "creative" invitations. My overall opinion of this product is 9.8/10.
