AllTel service prices reasonable, with good clear connections

Alltel seems to be making great strides forward in their quality of service in Tampa since I signed up with them 2 years ago. My connections are consistently clear, and very few areas within North Tampa seem to be in those annoying "call lost" zones anymore.
Package prices are very competitive these days, and the bonus minutes they are offering add up to a great deal. My latest package with them is 700 prime time minutes with 300 minutes of bonus time, free nights/weekends, and free long distance anywhere in the country as long as I'm calling from Florida. Package price is $39.99/month, with an additional $4.00 for voicemail. Caller ID is included, but adding call waiting is $2.00/month.
As shown above, you do pay for added services that are normally included in other companies prices...voice mail & call waiting costs can add to your monthly price. The positive point of this is that you can elect to have them or not, instead of them being included automatically. For those that do not want all the bells and whistles, you can lower your monthly cost $2-10 per month.
Customer service over the phone can be unreliable - I have twice had problems with service changes that were not done, causing problems when my next bill came in. They were resolved to my satisfaction; however it still entailed phone calls and time to resolve the problem. Dealing with someone in one of their many stores or kiosks is safer when you are trying to change your service details. Most Walmarts have kiosks or small stores for Alltel available, so it's easy enough to do changes in person. Personnel in their stores are very helpful, and will work with you with equipment upgrade prices if you ask.
I am overall very satisfied with their service, prices, and recommend them highly.
