AN INTRODUCTION TO 35mm Single Lens Reflex Cameras

Mar 12 '01

The Bottom Line The benefits far exceed the problems for the serious photographer.

The principle advantage of using a 35mm Single Lens Reflex camera is that the film is easy to obtain and the accessories are plentiful. You do not have to go for a very expensive camera to obtain good results.

A Single Lens Reflex camera has the huge advantage of what you see through the eyepiece (viewfinder) is what you see is what you get on the picture. This means that you do not have the traditional compact camera problems of cutting off people's heads or getting your fingers in the way of the lens which can spoil a shot.

There are two disadvantages to the Single Lens Reflex format. It makes the camera much bigger and it means that during the picture taking process you cannot see anything as the mirror is locked up.

Most Single Lens Reflex cameras also have inter-changable lenses increasing versatility.

An Single Lens Reflex camera also allows much more creative options than a compact camera like manual overides and filter options.
