From Honda Civic's to hybrid bathtubs -eBay Motors-
by shoplmart | Jul 29 '03
When I first started using eBay in the late 1990s, I only used this service to buy or sell electronic products i.e., video games, DVD players, etc. It wasn't until I found how much money I could save using eBay's auto service, titled eBay Motors ...

EBay.. (Reply to this comment)

The bain of my husband's existence!

He hates EBay.. Honestly. The reason is because I collect Wedgwood Jasperware and I can find remarkable deals there that I just simply can't find at our local antique malls and shops. I can also find makeup I've been wanting to try at half the price!

So whenever I buy something, my husband always says "So, you're saving me MORE money on EBay, huh?"

I'm not even going to venture into EBay motors.. I have a hard enough time convincing him that I really did need that Burt's Bees Royal Jelly Eye Cream or the 1930s Wedgwood Blue Jasperware Teapot that I've been eyeing.. I don't even know what he'd say if I bought a car there!

:)

Great review and have a fantastic day

How many cars do you have? There must be a heap of them rusting in the front yard!

I have only 2 cars, but I go through about 2-3 cars every year, meaning I buy one, drive it for 5 months, and sell it/trade it for something different (I did keep the Storm though). I have had over 30 cars in my life; starting with a 1989 Hyundai Excel when I was 15.

I actually just sold my '84 Vette on Ebay. I put it on just to see what would happen. It cost about $70 to sell it, there were no percentage fees either. Otherwise, I also am addicted to scanning the parts sections, always something cool to bid on.

There were no fees other than the $70? How long ago did you sell it? A lot has changed since the service first started. You should write a review on your experience with eBay Motors. Thanks for the comment.

For the last 2 months I have been selling and buying at ebay. Well this past Monday my 85 Minivan konked out and needs a new engine. I got a rebuilt one back in 99 so not sure if going to do that again or buy.

Was thinking of cruising the site to see what they have in my price range.

Liz,

I sold it the second week in July. They way I read it, it was $40 to list, and then another $40 when I received the first "selling" bid. It actually cost $80 to sell (I had like $10 in my account already). If I received no winning bids, I could keep relisting indefinitely (the way I understood it).

If you compare that to what I was planning to do, it's not a bad deal. In the past I'd list my cars in the local Auto Trader, and the regional Muscle Car Trader, which would run about $50 for only four weeks. I ended up selling to a guy in Texas as well, which surprised me (I'm near Cleveland, OH).

hmm... I plan on selling my Neon soon, maybe I'll use eBay Motors to do it (I highly doubt it though). Since you have expert experience with selling, you really should add your story.
