Pros: Compact, good sound, high capacity, needs no software.
Cons: poor display, cheap headphones, short battery duration, locks-up frequently
The Bottom Line: Learn from my mistake and avoid it. It has design flaws and quality problems that can be avoided by buying something else.

| chas140's Full Review: Archos Jukebox Recorder 20GB MP3 Player |
This item looks good and delivers excellent sound, and needs no software -- it becomes another disk drive. However, its drawbacks outweigh its good points. It has numerous issues with its quality and its features, and customer support is nonexistent.
I found that it frequently locked-up and did not respond to its controls following a charge, but just stayed on until the battery ran out. When a charge did work, it only lasted about 20 minutes before needing another charge. Archos technical support did not respond to my e-mail and their phone number had been disconnected. I was also unable to find any way to get replacement or spare batteries, from Archos or otherwise.
Aside from quality problems, the features leave much to be desired, for example (1) the display is very small and difficult to read and use. Among other quirks, the volume control is buried in the menu, instead of being a convenient external control like on most music players, (2) the music you store will be arranged in alphabetical order, and if played in sequence, will always play that way -- whenever you turn it on it will start with the same song and play the rest in the same order. Even if set in random selection mode, it will still start with the same song each time you turn it on (so make it one you like alot). You will need to devote time, effort, and imagination in how you organize your music if you want to get variety in playback. This player is also somewhat heavy, but I think many MP3 players are (high capacity ones, anyway).
To date this is one of 2 MP3 Players I have tried, the other being the Personal Jukebox (PJB) 100. Of the 2, the PJB is far superior in virtually every department except price (it costs more).
