| Ang27mom's Full Review: Kodak PictureMaker Kiosk Printer |
For weeks I have been looking forward to getting to our local Kinkos to try the new Kodak PictureMaker Kiosk. From visiting the website on it (at www.kodak.com) and talking on the phone to a Kinkos representative it sounded like this machine was just what I needed to get nice prints of my digital camera photos. I would quickly find out that this was not to be the case.
First of all, I was told that I would be able to "tweak" my photos. Like cropping, color changing, feathering, red eye removal, and etc. When I got there, I found out that the "tweaking" was only available to people who were making prints from prints and not to people who were making prints from their photo CD's or digital cameras. This, in itself, completely baffled me. This machine was ideally made for the digital camera photo making but then it keeps the digital photos from being able to be "tweaked" up. This makes no sense to me.
Secondly, the machine kept freezing up and the guy that was helping me said that this happened to people all the time. After the third time of rebooting it, I finally just left after only getting one sheet of prints ( I had wanted about 12 sheets of prints).
Also, the screen does not display the picture the way that the print will come out. For instance, on the screen, the picture I printed out looked fine in color but when printed out, it was very pink. Way too pink to even look nice. But when I tried to get the store to allow me another print, they said that they couldn't let me try again and would have to charge me. They claimed that they couldn't do anything at all about the machine and that all refunds and questions had to be referred to Kodak themselves. This is rediculus.
If Kodak is putting this machine into buisnesses, they need to have the personal trained to know what they are doing (which NO ONE at Kinko's seem to) and allow the stores to make customers happy with refunds and have the store take it up with them.
I am VERY unhappy. It took my 1 and a half hours to get one sheet because of the machine freezing and no one knowing what they were doing. And at the end of that, the picture was awful. I will be letting Kodak know about this.
So my advice, stay away from the Kiosk. It isn't worth it. You would better save time by going straight to the Kodak site online and uploading your pictures there. Then you can have them tweaked and they will make your print and mail it to you. The turn around time is longer but your end result is much better.
Good luck and God bless!
