Pros: good choice of calling plans
Cons: erratic and inconsistent signal, dropped calls, poor customer service
The Bottom Line: I've got coworkers who had Suncom and have switched to Verizon. They claim service is much better.

| aforet's Full Review: General Reviews of SunCom Customer Service |
I've been a Suncom customer for 5 years and spent quite a bit of money with them. In August my phone was stolen so I headed into the local retail store to take care of business. They sold me a new Panasonic for 100 bucks and charged me 35 dollars to shut off/turn on my phone number (for the new phone.) While I was there I picked up a second phone and line for my wife- it was only 20 dollars more and based on my history we chose a plan that would keep me at 70 dollars/month for the both of them.
What a joke that turned out to be.
The reason for my discontent, however, is the horrible signal/dropped calls/rogue roaming charges/duplicate voice message notification I have experienced since I moved to my new home 10 miles down the road. My phones are useless at my house, yet they work if I stand on my truck in my driveway or walk down the street a couple hundred yards. According to tech, I am located between two cell towers and my service will always be erratic. Fine. I'll switch to Verizon.
Not so fast- SunCom wants 200-dollar early termination fee for the second phone (they were *kind* enough to waive the auto-renewed older phone.)
I don't have a problem with early termination fees in theory- they are there to protect the provider from consumers who jump ship with every new promotion. I do, however, have a problem paying for a service that is not being provided at an acceptable standard and then getting "fined" when I opt out of what's not working.
