Popularity hasn't made this a good product, iTrip is a big disappointment.

Pros: Size, easy power source, potential for many convenient uses.
Cons: Weak signal, poor sound quality, and clumsy/problematic set-up and operation.
The Bottom Line: I cannot recommend the iTrip to anyone who demands high sound quality when listening to music even though the design and concept of this product are first rate.

| jmaudsley's Full Review: Griffin Technology ITRIP FM TRANSMITTER FOR NEW (4... |
I love my iPod and figured, Wow, that iTrip thing sounds like a great product. I ordered one right when I bought my iPod and, after the manufacturer was so backlogged that they couldn't send me one in a months' time, I bought one on eBay. Big mistake. It's now for sale again...on eBay!
I received my iTrip and it was brand new in its original packaging. It took me a few steps to get everything on my iPod to make it compatible with the iTrip (short songs are how you instruct your iTrip (through your iPod) which frequency to broadcast). Excited to try this widely sought-after product, I hopped in my car and set out to give it a try.
First, I had to find a frequency that was not taken on my radio spectrum which proved difficult. I wasn't really able to find a frequency that was without some signal bleeding through from one of the two adjacent radio stations. The first station I tried was the default for the iTrip 87.9 and sure my music came through, but yuck, what poor sound quality. Static, inconsistent volume, and nowhere near any kind of "stereo" sound. So then I scanned the entire FM dial and tried one other frequency, 107.3 with slightly better results but certainly not good enough sound to listen for any length of time.
Perhaps I demand too high of sound quality, perhaps I am sensitive to poor radio signal (this is an on going problem for me but that is another epinion...) Whatever the case, I just couldn't stand listening to my music sounding so bad transmitted through my iTrip. I had such trouble changing the frequency on my iPod (you have start a track and then pause it at the right point and then wait for a certain # of blinks before you can be sure that the change took). All in all, it was nowhere near as good a product as I had expected.
If less than hi-fidelity sound quality doesn't bother you or you don't mind some static or fuzziness to the music you listen to, the iTrip may well be the best way for you to proceed.
