The Bottom Line: Recommend if your a low volume or small office user. Great little laser. Hard to beat for the price and quality of the prints.

I've been a inkjet printer user for the past 5 years. Been pretty happy with them also. My only complaint has been the ink usage. That's where the laser comes in the picture. Not needing a high volume laser unit I searched around for a laser that had great print quality, low cost, reliable and fit on my desk. I found it with the HP Laserjet 1012. Set up time was about 10 minutes from opened the box till the first test page was printed. Pretty easy as long as you install the software first. Small enough to fit my desk and it prints extremely fast compared to my Brother MFC3100 and faster than my Canon S750. I printed a 17 page document to test its speed. From the time I clicked "OK" to start the print process till the time it stopped was 1:19 that works out to 4.64 seconds per page. The document was mixed with tables and text no graphics. That's fast! The print quality was excellent. I also printed in what HP calls the "Toner Save" mode with near identical times and quality. I am on the first cartridge but I will do a follow up on the toner cartridge life. $65.00 for a replacement cartridge is that bad, but then it could be cheaper since it's only rated for 2k to 2.5k pages. Hopefully it will last me some years to come. I've heard HP makes reliable laser printers, I can only hope it's true. One thing I did notice was that if you touch the paper after if first comes out, it is very HOT. Almost burned my fingers,but the paper cooled very quickly, maybe 5 seconds. I hope this little review helped you out.There is a $50 buck rebate so you price will be lower. I got mines for $149.00
