| martiao's Full Review: Canon i 9100 Inkjet Printer |
Long Story short: I spend most of the year in Brazil and have to lug all my supplies from California when I return for short visits. In my Rio apt I have a wide format Epson 1280, Epson 960 and an Epson 870.
In the last few years I had owned only Epsons and usually say "Real friends don't let friends buy any brand but Epson".
I print a lot - usually go through at least one cartridge per day. Using non-Epson Ink, I have had great luck and produced great photos up to 13x19 Matte portraits.
When the Epson 1280 Printhead finally burned out, the replacement cost in Brazil was prohibitive, so I shopped and did a lot of research on my last trip home.
End of story: I purchased an i9100 on the Internet and it was delivered in California two days later.
The printer is excellent!!!!! I did not even open the box, just put it in a large suitcase (along with a ton of third party ink)for the return trip to Brazil. Installation, on Windows XP, was a snap, even after a loooooong flight and a couple of beers.
Photographs are lovely. 13x19 inch Matte Portraits are printed like in 7 minutes, compared to up to a half hour on the 1280.
8x10 Glossy are printed in a minute or two. Phenomenal. If you are a long time Epson fan, you will have a learning curve with the printing software or bundled programs, but no big deal.
I agree that the best results are on Canon glossy paper, but can find no difference when I use any good quality Matte paper.
In my opinion, this is hands down better than the Epson. I compared it to the Epson 2200, but the Canon won out, basically on print speed. You cannot go wrong with the i9100. Of course, you should not buy it if you do not need to print larger than 8 1/2 by 11.
