Doesn't Work w/ Win2000Pro

Pros: They have an online chat feature with their "help" desk.
Cons: Everything. Please see the review for details.
The Bottom Line: Don't buy this if you have Win 2000Pro. I can't speak for other operating systems, however.

The first scanner I got didn't work (HP Director didn't work; none of the buttons on the front of the scanner worked; scanner didn't work at all). I have Win2000Pro/Office, which HP claims is supported by their product. The HP Phone Helpdesk person (from overseas, I believe - they had a difficult time understanding me, and the phone connection took a long time) determined it was a hardware problem, despite my protesting that it was a software problem. They wanted me to either pay to send the scanner back, or give them my credit card number for "security". Guess they've never heard of sending pre-paid shipping labels. No matter. The first scanner was then exchanged via the original purchaser and hpshopping.com for the second scanner. Same problem (HP Director didn't work; none of the buttons on the front of the scanner worked; scanner didn't work at all). After almost five hours of online chatting with HP, they determined it was a software problem (no kidding) and wanted me to buy their updated scanner software from them. I refused (why should I pay more?), and then they said they would send me a new CD. After it did not arrive after the prescribed amount of time, they wanted me to keep waiting (chat session #6). Problem: if I would have indefinitely waited (it's been two weeks now), I would not have been able to get a refund (has to be done within 30 days). Nice try, HP. I will never buy another HP product. Definitely not worth my time or money.
