This was one of the 4 free ones.
Operation Bassinet-Teaser
Operation Bassinet is the last of the Collingwood Heirs Series. I did not know this before hand or I probably would not have chosen this book because I hate starting a book and finding it is part of a series.
Normally I find myself lost mid way through.
Not so this time.
Switched at Birth??
Does this really happen? According to the Collingwood Heirs, it does.
And simple Stephanie Shelton, widowed mom to Keeley, is about to enter the nightmare of her life.
She has already had one nightmarish episode, when her loving husband, Brad, mysteriously turns up dead after an rock climbing activity-done alone.
Now less than 3 years later, hardened detective Mitch Halloran, now has to tell Stephanie that the daughter she has been loving, caring for, is not hers.
In fact, Keely, is an heiress to the Collingwood fortune, and her family wants her returned.
But then, where is Stephanie's real daughter-the one switched?
It is hard for Stephanie to take in, as it would be for any mother. However, Mitch has convinced her, if she does not work with the kidnapper who has Stephanie's real daughter, then both children were in danger.
How could Stephanie do anything but follow Mitch to NYC, enter into protective custody, and help find her real daughter and she tries to protect the one she knows.
Not pleased to sit around and wait, Stephanie begins doing a bit of digging herself and soon uncovers some unknown truths about her very 'not' honest husband Brad and his business dealings. In fact, his death is looking less like an accident and pointing more towards either suicide or even homocide.
How can Steph trust herself if she cant even trust the truth she has always known?
And Mitch, trying to protect both Steph and Keeley, is soon finding his hardened heart is melting under Steph's gaze.

My Thoughts
I found this book entertaining if not a bit outlandish in it's plots and subplots. But..it was not overdone with romantic fluff althought the ending didnt seem to quite fit the storyline as a whole.
Even tho, I had not read the other Collingwood Heirs books in the series, I didnt feel I was left out when reading this one and I consider that a great thing!!
I would not have chosen this book, had it not been free.
And at free, it is still not one of my favorites.
