| uffda6's Full Review: Tupperware Fridgesmart Container |
I will start by letting you know that I have been a Tupperware manager for 15+ years. When the fridgesmart was first introduced I saw them and kind of had that, I am not impressed attitude. I know we Tupperware people are supposed to be excited over every product they release, but not always so with this Tupperware lady. I was visiting at another manager's home and she excitedly asked me what I thought of the new fridgesmart, and I said not all that impressed she immediately looked at me and said you haven't used it. Well I had to admit she was right. She challenged me and I went home and committed to giving it a try. I had some green peppers in my refrigerator, so I took them out and put them in the fridgesmart container I had. Well I will be honest in saying they weren't the freshest when I put them in there but oh well I was trying right?
Two weeks later my sister in law stopped over to ask me what were these fridgesmart things in the catalog. I said oh they are new, I have a test going on right now. I proceeded to check on my 2 week old peppers. Well I can tell you I was totally shocked.
The peppers I took out of the container were fresh and crisp. Since that day I have been sold on them.
About the containers:
These containers are designed with what Tupperware calls ACE (atmosphere controlled environment). This system was designed to allow fruits and vegetables to breathe, wow who knew that vegetables could breathe! On the front of the container it has 2 little vents that allow produce to breathe. When both vents are open there is more air allowed in, one vent it medium air flow and both vents closed is for light breathers.
Some examples of different breathers are, broccoli, peas, sweet corn, spinach are high breathers, both vents open. Beans, cabbage, green peppers, lettuce of all types are medium breathers. Beets, mushrooms, celery, carrots, tomatoes, and berries are light breathers. A chart comes with each container, so you have easy reference, until you get to know your vegetables more. The newest release of these containers have the chart embedded on the side in the now clear plastic fridgesmart. I can testify that I have kept fresh strawberries in my fridgesmart for 3 weeks and when I used the last of them they were still fresh. I had celery in one for 2 months before I used it and it too was still fresh and crisp. Now those were just my results and there are a few variables such as how old the produce was when you bought it, and I personally do not wash it before putting it in the containers, but wait to wash it before I use it.
The bottom floor of the container has a rippled effect to allow fruits and vegetables to be lifted out of any moisture that may occur, which helps to reduce spoiling. These containers are easily stacked in your refrigerator for space saving storage. The wide grooved seal makes it easy to seal, and easier to clean. All parts are dishwasher safe, but I advise removing the vents before placing them in your dishwasher, in case they come off during the washing.
There are several sizes of the fridgesmarts.
Small holds 4 ½ cups and is 6 in. x 6 in. x 3.5 in. high price in catalog is $9.50
Medium holds 7 cups and is 6 in. x 8 in. x 3.5 in. high
price in catalog is 15.50
Medium Long holds 8 ½ cups and is 6 in. x 12 in x 3.5 in. high price in catalog is 18.50
Large holds 19 ¾ cups and is 6 in. x 15 in. x 5 in. high price in catalog is 23.50
or the entire set can be purchased for $55.00.
These fridgesmart containers have become a permanent fixture in my home. A complete turn around from the I am not impressed view.
