| tpowenski's Full Review: Cingular Mobile Phone Service in Philadelphia |
I've been a Cingular Wireless customer for a little over a year now and I'm currently looking to switch. The service has been less than stellar (lots of disconnects, no service and poor connections) but the real reason that I am switching is the customer service. A week ago I received a coupon in the mail rewarding me with an upgraded phone for the "Special" price of $99.00 for being a loyal customer. Off to the Cingular store I go. While speaking to my local Cingular Wireless dealer (and finding out that my plan is actually not elgible and that I'd have to switch plans to get this new phone) I notice the big posters all around the store advertising the same "special" price for this phone...$99.00. So, the "loyal customer" mailing was just a ploy to get me to spend more money on a new plan and an expensive phone. VERY NICE.
But wait, that's not all. So, the next day my wife calls me and tells me that she has tried to leave a voice mail but she can't because my cell phone voice mail is not picking up. Come to find out that the voice mail was shut off by the cingular wireless rep who was helping me at the store. All saved messages are lost and I have to open a new voice mail account. Fine. Later that day I notice that my voice mail is still not picking up. To make a long story short, I called 4 times to get this resolved without success. The final straw came when I called for the 5th time and encountered an unusually rude customer service rep. When I told him that I had called 4 times about this issue and that I was at the point of frustration he simply told me that the system was down and there was nothing he could do. I told him that I wasn't calling back a 6th time and that there had to be something he could do. His response: nope. Absolutely no empathy whatsoever. I ask to speak to his manager...20 minute wait on hold, and the manager told me that he'd have a tech call me very soon to resolve the problem...well it's been two days and no phone call. Forget it. I'm switching. I've never used Verizon wireless but their DSL and local phone service customer support has been a pleasure to deal with. Don't waist your time with Cingular.
